I've got a '66 Barracuda here with a new harness that I will be replacing. I've got an idea of the hours that I think it should take, BUT I'd like to see what anybody else has to say. I'll also be working on the bulkhead, but I know how long that will take me.

Mattax top fuel Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 1,645 Phila. Pa.	Jim, Something like 20 years ago I replaced the engine harness on my '67. I was fairly clueless and it still went pretty fast - maybe 1/2 a day - like 4 or 5 hours at most. Almost every year and body is a little different, but everything for the engine harness is pretty accessible. It will prob include the headlight circuit - on 67 that means removing the front grills. I assume 66 will be the same. - you know these cars well - it should go well. ps. save the original harness. I've raided mine for reference and parts in time since the replacement. Not every detail on the YO/MH harness is 100% correct so its good to have the original - it will roll up into a box pretty small.

I bought an engine harness from Bill and Rose Evans for my '63 330 here recently and it took less than 30 minutes to plug in and be running. All the components were already in place. '63 Dodge 330 11.19 @ 121 mph Pump gas, n/a, through the mufflers on street tires with 3.54's. 3,600 lbs. 10.01 @ 133mph with a 250 shot of nitrous an a splash of race gas. 1.36 60 ft. 3,700 lbs.

gtx6970 Too Many Posts Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 21,403 It's a dry heat	engine harness ,Im thinking maybe 3 hours or so. forward lamp harness will be a little more having to route it in behind the grill and stuff. so add maybe an extra hour for that. so maybe 4 If everything underhood. I would plan maybe 5 or 6 tops extra if you have an issue like I did. had no spark to the coil and had to back trace it back to the bulkhead wire crimp . the wire wasn't stripped bare and the crimp was on the wire insulation

AndyF I Win A Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 30,995 Oregon	I replaced the front wiring harness in my Duster. It didn't take me any time since I had the car apart. I just plugged the harness into the bulkhead and then when I put the fenders and grill back in I hooked up the lights. If you have to pull the old harness out and replace it with the car all together then it might take a couple of hours if you stay focused on the job.

I still don't get how some ppl has posted more than an hour ? now, making them by yourself and replacing after that... Being the picky I am, maybe 2 days long LOL With a Charger born in Chrysler assembly plant in Valencia, Venezuela

But maybe 1.5 if the old one is wrapped around Air Conditioner plumbing. You can get new Bulkhead connectores off Ebay too so if the female side is bad just replace it. 15 Male and 15 Female connectors for $10.99 and free shipping. Mopar Bulkhead connectors For my son's 74 D200 I made a total new one with some power relays and wire gauge upgrades and it took me two days. But I added 2 relays for the headlights, 1 horn relay, 2 fan controller relays and a Fog light relay. Last edited by Dave_J; 01/31/20 10:24 PM. I will be working on the bulkhead, but not replacing it unless I find a spare around here that is in good shape. The car has issues, but I already figured one of them out (damn Bouchillon AC/alternator bracket is powder coated...alt is no longer grounded...). I was losing too much voltage to the coil and the Chinese electronic distributor won't fire on 8 volts... I was figuring about 4 hours total for the harness replacement and bulkhead work.

Now I didn't considered the bulkhead job which on an A Body could take maybe couple of hours since is not comfortable. Depending on how deep is the job. Replacing terminals? Just replacing the bulkhead housing? Terminals usually can be simply cleaned. Just degrease it ( any solvent and brush ), sink it in vinegar with a bit of salt to remove rusty and sulfates on terminals ( that greenish stuff sometimes appears ) for a couple of hours, then on baking soda to beat the rest of acids of vinegar. This full process could take 3 to 4 hours if cleaning. If replacing terminals maybe just 2 hours depending on your tools and skills. I would preffer keep the original terminals. The factory crimping is way better than any crimp job made at home still with the right tools. Last edited by NachoRT74; 02/06/20 09:34 AM.
