Building a 540short deck. Aluminum block with 4.500 bore. B1 PSO heads. B1 single dominator. My question is can it make 1100 HP? This will be a serious Nitrous motor. Would like to know if a tool steel cam is worth it. Coated piston on so on. Need your thoughts on this. Thanks

When running nitrous, be careful with coated pistons. My experience is with a big block Chevy, but coatings will keep heat from migrating down the rod where engine oil will cool and get rid of the heat. If the heat does not migrate it stays in the chamber where it can melt pistons. Machine shop talked a buddy of mine into coating pistons on a freshen of a proven combination that was taking a lot of nitrous, after the coating, it destroyed itself in just a couple passes. Only change was the coating, in doing some research we rebuilt it with out the coating and it was reliable again. Some said if we would have richened the setup, it would have not had a problem, but we did not have the money to experiment.

I have a few customers makin that power w/smaller heads but the carb size and tune will make or break the final afr curve and output......would love to mod your carb or build ya a top shelf billet if you're interested...

I've made 920 HP with a goof up single Dominator carb on a 4.495 bore with a 4.25 stroke crankshaft (13.5 to 1 compression)in a World iron block to be used as a bracket motor with a Koffel prepared B1 originals heads that flowed right at 430 CFM at .800 net lift.
I know other racers out here that have made over 1100 HP with B1 originals with a lot of other good parts shruggy
I have one set of B1 originals with Jesel 1.7 rockers that I'm going to use on a pump gas 572 C.I. KB aluminum wedge block and a set of B1-MC heads with either Jesels or T&D pair shaft rockers on a 555 C.I. Koleno block bracket motor build, I'm hoping for 1100+ HP with two Dominators and a sheet metal tunnel ram on that motor luck
I don't know anything about the B1-PSO heads, sorry blush

Has any one used a tool steel cam. Just wondering if it’s worth the money or spend it some where else. Thanks for all the replies.

I don't think you can buy a cast steel solid roller cam from any of the decent cam company now, they will all be steel billet cores twocents
some will be black coated and some will be copper coated colors between the lobes, both will work well up

IMHO it is well worth the cost to upgrade to a 55mm cam core the stock cam core will limit you when you start turning the RPM you are going to need to turn to make 1100HP.
