I’m not really a big fan of how that KB162 piston is configured.
Short compression height with huge valve pockets.
Tougher to get any quench/compression out of it.

Tougher to get any quench/compression out of it. That's why the 687 is so much better. Even with Diamonds new 383 piston, you'll have to work pretty hard to get to 10:1, like zero deck and 75 cc. Eddy's

That Icon number posted looks pretty appealing with the 4.5cc dome volume.

True....... but this is the Race section...... so I assumed it’s not a motor home or a tractor.
As with any other build....... have a good plan, do the research, and figure out what’s the best direction to take for your build.

I like KB 400 it has small dome and I have it in .040 over version had to order and wait for that . But make easy 10.2 to 1 compression with 84 cc Eddy head and .005 down in the hole deck height. With .039 to .040 1009 gasket. Comp cam 275 hl Rpm intake . Cheap 1.75 headers. Drives good in my dads 68 charger with 727 and 3.55 gear .

This is an example of why it pays to do your homework...... and really be sure of what you’re buying.
The early version of the KB400 had a positive dome volume. They changed it at some point, and the one listed in the 2016 catalog shows the dome volume as “0”.
I believe the dome got smaller and the valve pockets got bigger.
What that means is...... if you have the “0” dome volume version in your zero deck +.030 over 383 with a 1009 gasket and 84cc heads...... you don’t have a 10:1 motor.
It’s a 9.36:1 motor.
Even swapping out the KB’s for the Icon piston with the 4.5cc dome...... it still only gets you to 9.78:1. Take the heads down to 82cc’s...... and then you’d be at 9.98:1.
