Just went to rebuild my carter 4619 & 4620 original hemi carbs and when I took the FRONT carb cover off there was NO lower thick accelerator pump spring under the plunger.
The rear carter carb has the bigger spring under the plunger.
Was there supposed to be a bigger spring under the plunger on the front Carter carb?

Scott Smith Harms at Harms Automotive, IMHO, best person to ask about carbs.

Mike.

Only one spring,16-171 listed, first item at top of sheet, for all applications, means front and rear both.

I'm asking if both carbs front and rear have that spring or is the front carb spring not used?
My set of restored Carter carbs are missing the front carb spring.

Both have springs, the sheet covers "all" 1968/69 Hemi carbs so that would indicate all had springs,It's real easy to forget to one on re assembly. Here is the balance of the spec sheet, you may want to save for future reference..

I've had hands on experiences with a lot of OEM Street Hemi motors,1966 up through a 1971, all of them had the pump return springs in both carbs. up

Thanks.
For all the replys.
I'm going to install a spring today.

I put in a new oe correct leather accelerator pump on both carbs.
Seems the front carb still wont squirt. Think the check valve is stuck?
Can it be freed up without taking off the carb?

Had no choice but to take both off.
Had to flip them upside down and keep tapping till they fell out.
They were stuck.
Guess the bad gas doesnt help them.
Now I'm betting there was nothing wrong with my old accelerator pumps after all.
Lesson learned.
