I installed a Mopar performance electronic distributor with Chrome box ECU in my 1970 440.
I have the following Accel 8140M ignition coil:
Super Stock Universal Performance Coil
SPECIFICATIONS: Color: Yellow Maximum Voltage: 42000 Package Quantity: 1 Primary Resistance: 1.400 ohms Secondary Resistance: 9.2K ohms Turns Ratio: 94:1
From the info above coil specs I assume I should be running a ballast with approximately 1.4 ohms. I currently have the original points style 0.6 ohm resistor installed. I am thinking I may be asking for trouble with the coil overheating. Should I upgrade to the 1.4 ohm resistor? If so, what brand do you like?
I see these models are available at approx. 1.4 ohms:
NAPA* Echlin* ICR11 (1.35 Ohms)
NAPA Echlin ICR34 (1.4 Ohms)
Lucas* 3BR (1.3 - 1.4 Ohms)
Mopar* DCC-4529795 (1.4 Ohms)
Accel* ACC-150250 (1.35 Ohms)
Standard* RU-4 (1.35 Ohms)
Standard RU-23 (1.2 ohms)
Standard RU-37 (1.4 Ohms)
Thanks in advance for your advice! Joe

as far I recall the old school Mopar Performance ignition system upgrade kit came with a 0.5-0.8 resistor

Yes Ma wants 1 ohm of ballast with it & Accel wants .7 Do you have .6 measured, as the last (OE) point ballast I ohm'd was 1.6

I will check the resistance and make sure I am between 0.6 and 1 ohm. Thanks! Joe
