Hey guys and gals,
I've got that issue of having changed carbs and now need a throttle cable (with OEM end fittings) that is about 2" longer than stock. My OEM stock is 17", and I need something like 19" but I'd take up to 22"..
Is there any source that lists 1960's style OEM Mopar Throttle cables by length, so I can choose the length I want?
I can find a good number of vendors who sell the OEM style cables online, but they list them by application; like '66 Charger 383', or '65 Belvedere Big Block', A-Body, etc.. ..so far none of them have cared to just tell me what their lengths are, because they probably sell by drop-ship.
I see there is a "Long" OEM Mopar throttle cable, but it's 24-1/2".. a bit too long for my needs.
Thanks, - Art

in the past, when i needed a longer cable and couldn't find it right away, i used a thin strip of approximately 1/8" steel to make up the needed distance. drilled the hole size needed in both ends, then used either a bolt with a ny-lok nut or a clevis pin and clip [sometimes hard to find that was short enough] in the cable end. the carb end attached like usual, using the other hole in the strip. rounding the ends and a spritz of paint from a rattle can made it look acceptable until the correct cable could be sourced. this worked so good that sometimes, i just forgot about replacing the cable. just something to consider if you run into a roadblock, or time constraint.

Thanks all - it's a '65 Satellite with the OEM firewall neck and clip / keeper.. I'll look at Mancini and AndyF's list, see what makes sense.. in the past, when i needed a longer cable and couldn't find it right away, i used a thin strip of approximately 1/8" steel to make up the needed distance. ....just something to consider if you run into a roadblock, or time constraint. Thanks, brilliant minds think alike.. I fabricated about 1" of that, but need a little more.. and figured I could find something. I want a fix in place by Friday, so yeah - I'm looking around now for some sheetmetal, and get the correct cable later. Cheers, - Art

Thanks guys - Here's an update and hopefully something useful for you all to take away..
So I found a longer 21-3/4" cable with OEM ends that would mount properly at the gas pedal and at the carburetor.. I looked at the product photos closely, it all looked good, and went ahead and ordered it.
I woke up the next morning and canceled the order.
Why?
Because what I realized as I was falling asleep (cuz, who doesn't think about their Mopars last thing before falling asleep, right?) was that the problem isn't the overall length of the cable. The problem was with the length of cable that sticks out of the metal-sleeved end. That end reaches from the manifold bracket to the mounting pin at the carburetor. That's what was too short. Not the overall length. What I'm saying is, you can have as long a cable as you want, but the amount of cable coming out of that metal-sleeved end has to be enough to reach the distance from the throttle cable bracket to the carburetor.
Instead of the longer cable, I fabricated a length of steel plate that extended by 1-1/2" the original length of cable that comes out of the metal-sleeved end to reach from the manifold bracket to the carburetor pin.
Cheers, - Art
