So, see pics. Any help in decoding what I am looking at would be great.
A 440, has a VIN stamp on the passenger oil pan rail. Though the VIN stamp looks to be different than factory...the pad has the usual machining marks but the VIN font seems more subtle than normal. It is now in my GTX, but not sure that means anything, the VIN stamp is the VIN of the GTX. The engine was in the car prior to it being restored. Warranty replacement?
On the second pic I highlighted what might be hard to see in the picture
'69 Hemi Charger 500, ‘70 U code Challenger R/T (These and a bunch others at www.dkowal426.com) P.J. O'Rouke: "The old car ran perfectly, right up until it didn't."

Compare the stamped 7 8 (July 8) to the casting date on the side of the block. I agree it's a replacement bare block never assembled.

Right, took me a minute to be sure of what I was seeing. The casting date is 8/4/69.
I thought the casting date was on the driver’s side, took me a while to get a good pic of this one behind the passenger exhaust manifold under plugs 6 and 8.
The car is a late November, 1968 build car.
