I picked up a 5.7 recently and wondering who are the cam experts for custom ground cams for the gen 3 hemis? Who are you guys using?

Why do you think you will need a custom camshaft?

I think for a start I would contact someone like this for a recommendation for an off the shelf camshaft and supporting hardware if needed:

340Cuda- I just figured there is some power to gain with a custom cam over a shelf cam. Most of the shelf cams are designed for the new Challengers, Chargers, etc. (Heavy cars with not a lot gear or converter). I plan to put the 5.7 in my 73 Challenger with 4800 stall, 4.10 gear, single plane intake (Ritter or Cascar), big headers.

You could be right, but Dave Weber's company above would still be a good place to start.

Good luck with your project and keep us posted on your progress.

I got my custom cam(Comp Cams) from Ray(sixpackgut) when he worked on my heads. Same cost as a shelf cam.
One stop shopping.

I think of Ray for heads and manifolds but he would also be a great resource on camshafts as well.

Erik at BFNY performance also has a lot of experience specing custom cams on G3's.

Imo MMX just keep regurging the same profiles. Most of the time they rec their MMX no spring required cam which is just a Comp 270 off the shelf intake lobe with a slower LS exhaust lobe and slight lsa change. They promote a stg 3 and stg 4 lope cam with only difference is 1 deg lsa

These are the lobes from the MMX NSR cams
Int-13183 lobe xtreme energy VVI Ex-3718 lobe-extreme rpm ls1

A very good option is Comp cams LSL lobes. These are designed for G3's and LS1's and have a range from 211-275@.050" to choose from with lift still within the capability of stock rockers

If Im porting someone's heads for g3 stuff, I want the springs setup for the cam so I use Steve Frank for a cam and don't make a dollar on the cam and have it shipped direct to customer. For the LS crowd I only do that for the guy's I know will know better if they change cams the spring setup must change. And the list for those guys is somewhat short.
