Looking for info on the correct color for a 1970 Hemi Challenger shaker bubble. Based on pictures and some limited research the best I can find has been 1 of 3 ways, body color, Argent silver, or some sort of black. I'm looking for a baseline as to what the factory did. Are body colored bubbles offered on specific colors only ?
I'm heavily leaning towards painting mine black regardless but still want to be educated on the correct color.
So for bubbles that are painted black, is it arganasol black ?, flat or semi flat black ?

Allan G. In 70 the vast majority are argent silver. If your car was the prototype (photo car) the bubble was orange but that did not make it into production. If you have a VERY late build date your car may have had a Black Bubble. Shaker Challengers are pretty rare, since they stopped production for half of the year.

I believe Fram painted two bubbles orange for the photo shoot or preproduction shots of the 1970 Challenger with a shaker hood. In 1970 as most know the hood was not available for a vast period of time until early April. Friend of mine ordered a 1970 Challenger 440-6 and put on the Dealer order form that it had to have the Shaker Hood. I believe his build date was April 12th. I also believe he ordered the Challenger in October or November of 1969 and the Challenger bubble color was argent and the car Lime. I have seen both Argent and Black on Challengers in 1970 and this goes for 1971 also. 1970 the Cuda had a Red Bubble up to the end of December beginning of January on Red FE5 Cudas. and I have seen both Black and Silver on Cudas. I also have seen both black and silver on 1971 Cudas. I would paint the bubble to a color that looks nice with the color on your Challenger. Even if your choice is to paint it to match the cars color, it is still a personal choice. If you are doing the resto thing paint it either Black or Argent. The argent in a spray can was not to bad a product for painting a bubble but the argent that use to be sold by a few in a quart can was far better. Never used Frank Badalsons argent but it is likely very good and likely being made by some paint company.
As for texture on the bubble it is rougher than most think as Tommy Chryco has stated. Both my original bubbles have lost a lot of the roughness over the years from being washed and by general use.

Supposedly Challenger Shaker production was until 10/15 and then placed on hold until 4/15. The mass majority of 1970 SPDs that I have seen are 7/23 (including my own car). Only one or two very early cars would have had the orange bubble. Since there was on FIFO (First In First Out) back then you see black bubbles on late 70s and argent bubbles on early 71s.

Well I will stir the pot. I use to collect all information I could on Hemi Vehicles built from 1963 ya December of 1963 the Ramcharger Vehicle to the end of Hemi production. I came across 5 1970 Challengers built in the time that Shaker Challengers were not suppose to have been built. Daniel Banker and I each had 12 1970 Hemi Challenger VINs that had Shaker hoods but not all were the same VINs. These 5 were built in Dec. and Feb. all on or near the same days. I gave all this information to Daniel and have no clue were it is now. Ron Mitchell ordered his lime 1970 Challenger 440-6 and he is the guy that put on the order sheet about this car having to be built with a Shaker Hood. Ron told me he ordered the Challenger from a Dealer in Bomanville, Ontario, Canada and waited all Winter for it to be built. Every day he would drive by the dealership and one day he saw it in the show room and went in to see if it was his car he ordered. It was his and the Dealer wanted to keep it in the show room to generate sale. He sold the car years ago almost 100 percent original to I believe a member on this site and now this Challenger might of been resold again. I looked at the fender tag 20 years ago and I think but could be off that the SPD was 412. I do not have any pictures of the FT but have some on the car someplace and can not remember the VIN but others know this Challenger pretty well and maybe someone snapped a picture of the fender tag.

I have been told be more than one person that they ordered a Shaker and came with a R/T hood or that they had to wait 6 months to get the car.

I was also one of those that ordered a 70 Shaker Challenger. It came in 6 weeks with the R/T hood and a blackout decal. Boy was I real mad at the salesman. Took the car, he told me then they could not get the Shaker car. Bob
