I use a Mallory canister with cartridge filter before my Mallory 140. Forget what the micron is.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

All the paper fuel filter elements I've heard of are 10 microns, not bigger. Do not use a fuel filter between the pump and the tank that has smaller than 80 Microns filter in it I would and do use a 80+ micron filter between the pump and tank to keep the large particles from going through the pump and a good 10 micron high volume paper element between the electric pump and carb or fuel regulator also
