Hi, as i might swap out mine original type iron headers your ideas of brands & recomendations are welcome.
Facts 71 Chally, 440six pack, auto trans, ps, pb, has the original a31 hp axle package, so discs in front, 3;91 sure grip, short ratio pitman is included. So this is ordered same as an RT but is an Conv.. was 340 now 440sp
Have looked at TTI 1-7/8 440 headers, think mini starter is a must but more? is it best throw in an slant six hehe.. any advice what headers to look for?
Thanks
Michael

Car like that I wouldnt dream of any header other than TTI, Dougs or Schumacher. All above mentioned with ceramic coated are above $700. The Shumachers are easiest to install and work around but also are limited to 450 horsepower as stated by the MFGR. If it were my car Id go 1 7/8" Dougs or TTI.

I'd stick with stock iron manifolds.

Unless you're planning other modifications I'd stick with stock manifolds on a car like that. You're not gonna get a big improvement in power with headers. Beautiful car by the way.

You will cuss the headers every time you try to work on anything.

iagree

I've put headers and other aftermarket parts on my car and I've really gotten fed up with it all. Always one problem after another.

I have Doug's 2" headers on my Savoy and they fit absolutely perfect even with a 4 speed. I have a steel bellhousing and I had to trim the edges so the tubes would clear. A stock bell would not be an issue.

I use the 2" TTI on my car with its 440/493 and you can change the plugs with ease on it. One thing I like about headers also is the cool off much faster then the exh manifolds do and no matter what a car has I prefer to do plugs when its cooled off some. And I am a header guy as I like the more performance of the headers. The good headers like TTI and the Dougs have thick flanges and don't warp like the headers of the 70's did. Good luck . Ron

TTI all the way, I have a set on the 451 in my Challenger and they fit great and make the engine 10-15% more HP.

Take care,

This s so true but the hobby has to do with tinkering and trying new stuff.. I love the look of a high quality silver ceramic coated header.

OP, if your a hot rodder at heart then you got to get the most performance out of that car you can, you don't want any SB Camaro convertible showing you its tail lights, do you stirthepot work shruggy

I've run Hedman headers on 440 ebodies for the last 25 years. I did have to clearance for the power steering box on the last car (which I hated to do on brand new, Jet Hot Sterling coated headers, but the coating held fine).

Never a problem with leaks, ever. Also currently running a fast ratio pitman with no problems.

I still use Hooker Super Comps.
I've had the same gaskets on mine since circa 2003. I do use copper collector gaskets. Not a ton of miles in that time, I will admit, but when I take it out I seldom baby it. They work ok. I would never pay retail for them though.

If you never rev the motor past 4500 rpm, keep the cast iron manifolds. If anything add a set of Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers to give the car a deeper exhaust note.

Most of my friends in Stockholm and Finland have already put their cars away for the long winter. Rust from the inside out is an issue with headers that sit for long periods of time. Even if they are coated inside and out, which helps extend their life.

Get the full TTI exhaust if you are going to pull the trigger on upgrading your exhaust. It's the best, but pay for the inside and out coatings.

If that was my car i would get the TTI headers, after owning one set it was a nobrainer to buy TTI again when i decided i needed a bigger set.
Do the ceramiccoated inside and out.
Regarding ministarter or not, check the application notes from TTI but overall i like them anyway since they are smaller lighter and i guess they might need less power to start an engine due to not be of a stoneage design.
That looks like one fine car you have there!
Still a few nice cars on the roads before the long dark winter sets in!

Headers if your going to keep it and use it.

If you plan on selling it manifolds are better for resale. As time goes on Mopar guys are becoming like vintage Vette/Shelby Mustang guys, who like original everything and quickly dismiss modded cars.

I like going fast so headers for me. If you do get headers, go with TTI.

headers like to hug the starter so much that you have to move them to get the couple apart. I'd stay with stock manifolds

I built a brand new motor and not being filthy rich, had one set of TTI's to install. The bummer was TTI stated NOT to install the headers on an engine to be broken in as it would ruin the ceramic coating. Nice
