Go slow with lubrication. Use aluminum compatible cutting fluid or kerosene for lubrication.

WD40 is an effective lubricant for aluminum. You are going to want the slowest possible speed the drill press can provide. Much more than a couple hundred rpm will likely be trouble. Clean out the chips often.

If you want clean round holes I would use a hole cutter bit, they don't have the runout (wobble) of a regular holesaw

I have a few of these https://www.amazon.com/EZARC-Carbide-Cut...utter&psc=1

Also Greenlee and Lennox

If I have to have a nice round hole I use a
little smaller hole saw then use my adjustable
boring bar in the mill.. turns out perfect

Seems you need a simple cut, get a Bi Metal hole saw, home depot, lowes etc. You don't need anything fancy for what you are doing, I agree go slow and a little lubricant couldn't hurt, but not needed for a single cut like your asking about. NO high speed spins, and your fine.

Me too, never got a nice correct dimension hole with a hole saw.
