Thinking of upgrading the sound system in the RR. Looking for stock appearing, just the 3 speakers. 1 dash, 2 in the back, and probably a retro radio.

Whats the best source? Is there an adapter someone makes here on moparts to go to small dual front speakers?

Thanks
Chris

You could always have the original radio upgraded to modern am fm stereo with 180 watts total power, the ability to run up to 4 speakers ,with aux jacks for mp3 / ipod etc. .
Radio will remain 100 % stock on the outside . We've done about 500 of these conversions . It is a very popular choice with my customers . Sure beats the heck out of an aftermarket radio in the dash .
Let me know if I can help .

Why not go with a remote system in the trunk? That way you could leave the dash and radio as is.

Go over to the Road Runner Nest and look at my 71. I let the stock radio run the center front speaker, then put a Pioneer Cassette Super Tuner for FM and period looks. I hid an amp under the package trey deck with 2 6x9 Infinity's. I then got a cassette adaptor and use a Sony Walkman for cd quality signal input, and can remove it at a show. There is only one Sony to use cause it has a line out jack.

If you want to retain the stock appearance, do what big money lewis says and have Wards do the Aurora 180 watt am/fm/mp3jack (even bluetooth, too), conversion to your stock radio and upgrade your factory 8 ohnm speakers to 4 ohm hi perf speakers. You can't use 8 ohm speakers with the Auroa conversion unless you wire them in series which destroys stereo sound.

If you're wanting to replace the front large center dash speaker with 2 smaller ones, turnswitch.com sells a mounting plate you can mount 2 3"or 4"speakers in. . They also sell high perf 8 ohm speakers if you just want to upgrade your stock radio system. Its roughly $500 for the
Auroa conversion plus 4 ohm speaker costs. You can get a 2'or 3'MP3 jack cord & hide it in the glove box or ash tray.

I used their 8 ohm speakers in my 70 Challenger 3 speaker dash system years ago & had Wards restore my am 8 track before they stopped doing tape players and they also added an mp3 jack I hid in the ash tray. Stock small watt output but it sounded great with turnswitch's 8 ohm speakers.

I had Barry's 8 track do the Auroa 180 watt/ mp3 jack conversion to my am/fm 8 track in my 71 Power Wagon but it s pretty expensive to get them to upgrade the delivery date.

Greg, what does a 180 watts per channel do to a stock electrical system? Would there have to be any up grades to the wiring and charging system?

It's actually 45 watts per channel x 4 speakers = 180 watts total.

No upgrades needed at all to the cars wiring. The radios power and dial light will still plug in to the factory original plug underdash.

I have the upgrade to my radio as well for my '71. I have original appearing speakers that fit in the original holes as well. The only difference is the front has 2 little ones that fit the same hole.
