No unless it has a A745. Will kill a A903 almost immediately. I have a spare 66 A745. Not sure if a A903 would even fit a big block - might.

Many 4 spd big block housings have a dual bolt pattern for both a 3 speed and a 4 speed.

I have a 383 3 spd on the column 65 Fury cop car. Nothing wrong with a 383 3 spd on the column!

Note - at least in 65 (think 66 is the same) A745 were different between small and big block. The 1st gear ratio is different.

X2 on markz528's comments.

Only one add to it: if the customer is going to stay the course and stick with a three speed, get a 1970-up A230. 1970 is the first year of being all synchro. Pre-1970 does not have a synchro on first gear.

What you should get is a 1970 A230 from a 383/4 Cuda or Road Runner. These are a close ratio version. Not easy to find, but not in demand either.

The new for 1970 3-speed in cars is the A230.

Yup, A230; swapped a mint one out of an E-body into a '64 Savoy Poly 318 to get the synchro 1st. Fairly wide ratio spread. Looking through the FSM there are 2 A230s, with different strengths & ratio sets. When I later did a BB/727 transplant on the car, took a couple years to sell that trans for $150 with a floor shifter.
The 3-speeds seem to be gaining in popularity now.

I got the whole package setting in a 72 Duster Twister /6 with AC. Would love to find a decent a-body to put it in.
