I bought a 1971 Dodge crew cab that was originally a 383 truck. It has a 440 in it and I’m trying to identify the year and if possible what it came out of.

On the top pad it reads H 440. Below that is
8. 10

If I checking codes correct the H means a 1972 block?
However the build date on the pass side of the block looks like 1971.

Wouldn't that mean it was built in 71 and installed in an early 72?

Check the VIN pad on the passenger side of the block just above the oil pan, that will tell you what vehicle it came out of.

The 1972 model year started during the Summer of 1971.

H is the Series (model year) 1972

Is there a partial VIN on the passenger side of the block?

C plant is Jefferson, MI so it had to have been in a C body or Imperial originally.
