Who has a good foam to do this? Should I do fireproof?

I already have he lower metal "pan" fabbed that fits the carb.

I just used the Moroso stuff. There might be something cheaper out there. Keep in mind, 60 inches doesn't go that far. I'm using a 14 inch air cleaner on my pan. I used all the foam in the kit and circled my air cleaner with only a few inches between the foam and the element.

When my Son worked at a scrap yard he bought some old road signs that were laying around.

Then I went to my local plumbing (hardware store) and bought 2 inch foam to seal it.

My local store had 1/2 inch to 2 inch foam in stock.

Would you expect a performance difference between a yield sign and a speed limit sign?

boogie

I used the Moroso replacement foam. Years ago I called on it and was informed it is fire retardant. I never did test the theory because, as mentioned above, the kit only has enough to to a 14" air cleaner. My car has had the same foam for almost 20 years with no complaints.

Is that close cell or open cell foam? Which one is the best to use?

I used the black stuff to match the car when I have the hood off.

I used 2x2” air conditioner foam from Home Depot applied to the air pan with spray adhesive. So far it’s held up good and was worth a tenth in the quarter mile.

I'll be adding a tray and foam and doing it
much like Humpty did but its gonna be on my
Rampage
EDIT
Mine is a cowl set up so I need a pretty big tray
to cover the whole cowl.. I think I will attach
the tray right to the cowl to make it easy
wave

How about a P shaped seal that you could rivet or glue on?

Yeah, I use a rubber bulb seal like that, with a pinchweld grip end, but I have a lip and not much of a gap to seal; just sealing an air-cleaner base to a round hole of the same size in my hood.
