Ihave removed all the screws that I see in my 1966 Plymouth Belvedere to fix my speedometer but, I still can't get the dash apart. Is there a trick to this. Does anyone know how it comes apart. Thanks Al

Did you undo the speedo cable? I hope you have the battery disconected because the main hot wires go to through the amp gauge and they can short out very easily.

While I have never removed a 1966 dash cluster, I know that the removal of the dash cluster in my 1965 Belvedere I required that I drop the steering column by the removal of the trim plate and two ( 2 ) bolts that hold the column up and in place. You might try that.

Good luck...

I am only familar with the coronet, but my guess is it is close.

There are a number of other things that hold that in place. As mentioned above, the speedo cable, the plug for all the wires, the amp meter, but that has enough give that it doesn't really stop you.
The radio knobs and nuts holding it to the dash, as I am pretty sure that is one piece in 66, but don't remember for sure. As well as the slider on the heater control.

You don't have to drop the steering column, but it does give you a bit more room, and you don't scuff it as much getting it in and out. It is also a bit deep. You will have to tilt it a bit and have it rub against the frame a little to get it out.

Old thread but I have the same question.

Radio isn't tied in to this.
heat controls are our of the way
headlight & wiper switches are out

it's really tight on the bottom coming out-

Has something on the bottom/back holding it in.

Anyone?

Did yo pull the wiring harness from the dash? It is connected in several places behind the driver side kick panel and at least one on the passenger side.

do you mean dash as in frame or instrument cluster as above?

Instrument Cluster

Where wiring isn't holding it yet,

something on the bottom is holding it, near each end, where the light switch and heater controls mount,

I can see it holding me up, I can't figure out how to make it get out.

there is no specific wiring down there holding it in.
as I said before you have to tilt the top out first and the bottom will come.

if you can sweep along those areas and not hit wiring, then it should just pull out.

it is easier if you drop the column because the bottom hits the steering wheel before it will clear trying to pull it straight out.

now this is from memory, and it has been several years since I pulled one.

but looking at the cluster I have sitting in the shed, I don't see any reason for that to not move if it pulls out most of the way.

the radio, and heater controls hold it in on the glove box side, amp meter in the center, plug for the circuit board and speedo.

that is pretty much it.

amp meter has enough give to pull it after the cluster comes out.

speedo will stop it cold and so will the radio. it will come out about an inch if even that if either of those were still attached.
