I a/b tested orange box, chrome box, super coil, blaster 2 at the drag strip back when my gtx ran mid 12s. I found no difference in et or mph, or ease of starting, or much of anything between them in that context. :shrugged:

I believe Keith dunnuck (sp?) tested several coils under more Controlled conditions (dyno), and the winners were Mallory volt master, Yellow super stock coil, and big yellow super coil. I can't quite remember which was top dog. This was some time ago and I've had msd and hei on the brain.

The coil that sits in a can is less efficient than an E-core coil. You can buy them from the major manufacturers or you can use one from a Ford TFI equipped car. FD478. Here's one for under $10.00 delivered:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BORG-WARNER-Select-FD478-NEW-FORD-LINCOLN-MAZDA-MERCURY-82-97/261647237128?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
This coil is built to operate as an inductive spark coil, like the orange box is. It releases more of the stored energy to the plug as it is more efficient. Cheaper versions have an aluminum coil terminal.
It doesn't look the same and may be harder to mount, its only drawback.

I've been running the blaster 2 mainly for reliability and fit in factory harness on my stroked smallblock. I like it.
Facts are stubborn things.
