Very cool John thanks for the update. What would it take to make one with out transbrake?

the way I wanted to design my 518-618 valve body is to have no electronics, no shift solenoids for the shifting, I wanted 1 2 3 4 to be all off the manual valve, this way, there is no issues with delayed shifted with electronics, and no way a solenoid to go bad for shifting wile racing. To do this, I had to put Reverse and Neutral on the same detente, so my shift pattern is :
P N-R (reverse when apply trans brake or reverse solenoid) 1 2 3 4 1st 2nd 3rd 4th are all off the manual valve, this makes for the best flow and apply pressure. This can only be done when using N&R on the same detente. So you dont want a trans brake, I can set the valve body up so the solenoid only works in reverse, but we all know, if you have a valve body with a trans brake, you going to want to play with it and try it, they are a lot of fun at stop lights

so this means a guy can now use an RE transmission without having to use the associated computer electronics ? if so, that would open up the donor choices a bunch. yes that is what it means. You can manually shift to 10,000 RPMs if you want. You will have to program your PCM to a 5 speed stick ( non automatic trans ) so you have no check eng light issues. This also means, you can install any RE transmissions in your older Mopar and no PCM is needed.

I will have one for a lock up and one for a non lock up. now that will be AWESOME, I have 518 in my street strip 512 68 Charger, right now I have a switch for OD & one for lock up, it would be nice to have 4 gears on the shifter & a Trans brake LBA ?

now a really stupid question. any chance of a kit for us do-it-yerselfer's that like to save a buck if possible ? or maybe just a manual valve body kit without the brake ? the ONLY way that can be done, is if there is no neutral, Shift pattern would be: P R 1 2 3 4 And I am not sure if I want to go there.

I wouldn't go there.
Now you have me thinking about going to an a500 vs going back to a 904 from a 727.
Any idea on the weight difference between a 500 and 727 vs a 904 with a gear vendors. I wouldn't mind an overdrive but I don't have much interest in a gear vendors unit either. Hmmmmm

I'm going to think long and hard about this for my diesel truck. I've been tossing the idea around for quite some time. Just need to figure out a shifter for it.

Thats' cool. Does it still support a lockup converter? Would it work in a 48RE transmission? Yes & Yes. You will have to tune your PCM for a manual 5 speed stick so no check eng light comes on when the wiring will not be used and or plugged in.
