I just received a partial order from rock auto for my front end rebuild. The moog 8243a cam bolts and moog k408 regular bushings. The shank on the cam bolts fits through the bushing inner sleeve very loosely, like the next size up on bolt size would be more correct. A good 1/8 to 3/16 sloppy fit. This just doesn't seem right. Car is still together so I can't check existing setup.

I called moog tech and the blue prints for the parts show a clearance factor between bolt shank and bushing sleeve of .140. Wont this lessen the adjustment available and wont the control arm be able to move in and out .140 on the bolt? They say part blueprint unchanged for years and say parts are correct. Still, I think the fit should be tighter

That's way too much slop for sure. Give us a measurement of those bolts.

I just measured bolt shank at .490 and inner sleeve at .570 so a difference of .08 Their tech support told me there was a .140 difference between the two

I bought my bolts from RockAuto ... Mevoteh brand. p/n ME MK8243A They measure bang on 1/2" with a vernier and they fit the bushings with no excessive play - nothing like you have anyway!

My guess is the bushings are the culprit.

This doesnt matter IMHO as the bolts are only there to hold the stuff together and allow alignment to be adjusted....When they are tight....the bolts clamp the inner tubes of the bushings in place and there is no slop.

Take care,

That seems to be how the design is intended. I'm just playing with the new parts and mocking things up. I expected the bolt to fit the bushing with much less slop.
