I picked up a trans the other day from an old friend of my dads. I need some help identifying it. Here are some pics of the numbers.

The vin stamped on it is 8G149054. Actually I just found the vin number did not even see it until about 20 min ago I hate getting older. So with that number I am thinking 68 383 car just from the 8G .

it would be a (late-October '67) '68 B-body 383 4bbl/383HP/440HP non-Charger (probably Plymouth)

I have info on a car ~300 VINs later Road Runner 383HP 4-spd

4225039 anyone have any ideas how the date & sequence numbers "work" on a transmission stamp like this one?

I'm still waiting a response on the same question I posed a couple years ago.

727s are date coded like small blocks, hemis and 4 speeds, using the 10,000 day calendar. There are 7 or 8 digits (there can be either) after the part number. First four are the assembly date, the rest the unit number. I think we are just missing a digit. Put a 2 before the 4 and we have a 68 assembly date, March 15 or so.

Or, maybe the 4 is a mis-stamp. Change the 4 to a 2 and you have an assembly date that jives with the VIN date Dan gave.

The build date 4225 decodes to February 20, 1973 which is, obviously, not in sync with a '68 trans. Either it's a mis-stamp (2225) or it's a trans that was built at a later date as an over-the-counter replacement for a '68 trans.

years ago I proposed the "ASSUMED" missing 2 at the beginning of date

but as said above that makes this a March '68 trans in an October '67 car

2250 is late September '67, but can we consistently get there?

we need more examples of known original '67-'68 cars - VIN & part-number pad date

with a Feb. 67 tailshaft housing & what appears to be an original '68 partial VIN stamp? shruggy

Is it possible that he put together some parts to build this trans.
He is getting up in age memory not what it used to be. He told me this was a hemi trans that's why he hung on to it all these years. It has a reverse manual valve body in it. This is the tag he had on it.
