I am going to replace my stock steering column with a 3/4' chrome moly tube, and use the Strange 1200 SFI quick release with a 633 Grant 5bolt wheel.

I am planning to use a needle bearing ujoint style coupler on the box like the borgeson, or AFCO

https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/afc-30305/overview/

Are all the A body manual steering boxes 3/4" 36 spline?

Is it OK to just use a 3/4" rod end to support the shaft under the dash??

Pictures of how you guys did it are welcome!

Arnie

Mike is right you definitely want to get the heim that is oversized for what you want to do... up
I've also seen a couple dumasses tack the u joints on before the heim was put over the shaft... tsk fan
Be sure to align(index)the U joints if you use more than one... twocents

Mine uses a gutted stock column tube with a roller bearing at the top only. It has no lower bearing in the column. after market U-joint at the gear box. Steers very well.

Doug ...that bushing at the bottom of the shaft housing, is that something you fab. up was it from some manufacturing item? My reason for asking is that I had to fab. up something similar on my housing.

Sorry op. not meaning to steal your thread.

I made a washer and welded on. It doesn't actually support anything, just a coverage . It's intended use was in case of fire. A path blocker

several joint descriptions state 35* for a single joint, but there are double joints out there from several companies that allow more angle. unfortunately, i can't at this minute, state what the maximum angle is for the double joints are. the "oversize" 3/4" heim measures .757 ID. using a common 3/4" heim won't work on a bare 3/4" shaft [even if it measures a common .749 OD. size], and any paint makes it even worse. [can't think of anything being worse than not fitting in the first place]

We made a tubular column for my Challenger. I adapted the factory woodgrain steering wheel to the quick release.

I made my own column also. Mated a stock steering wheel to a Wilwood quick release. Also used a 3/4" heim to to support the shaft.
