Hey gang...
Getting to the point now where I need to consider replating many components on my Superbird. I'm not looking to replate everything.. The car is in overall great shape, so stuff I can't see, like inside the doors, will be cleaned, treated and corrosion-controlled. But, things like door latches/strikers, wiper motor, housing, etc, I would like to get done to have a nice fresh look. I have reached out to S.F already. Are there any other firms that specialize/know Chryslers?
Thanks.. T

Troy, Have you checked within your area for a plater? I live in Northwest GA, but close enough to the Marietta / Atlanta GA. area that there are several platers that will do small jobs for us. They will not disassemble or assemble the components, they will only plate the parts. They charge basically on the weight of the parts left with them. I will usually try to accumulate enough parts to make it worth there efforts and mine. Typically 20 to 30 pounds and they will usually only charge me $75 to $100. I also have 3 restoration shops that will send me components to be refinished. That is a lots of small parts. I will bead blast and wire brush the parts and then bag and box based upon the finish required, clear, silver, yellow or black zinc. They will not do black phosphate. For parts like door latches, coil brackets, brake boosters, etc. you can save yourself some substantial money if you do lots of the labor yourself and do not outsource component rebuilds.

Good point, like anything where you are at the mercy of having to ship your parts off to someone to have them done and have no ideal on who is doing the work. That is why I am fortunate that I have been able to actually drop off my work at the facility and know that they are doing the work in house. I know that a chrome shop in the Atlanta area was advertising plastic plating in house only to find out they they were outsourcing the work. What was really bad was that they were not even using one of the better platers.

I'd like to know how you all can send out fasteners in bulk for plating, and then manage to get them all back to their proper locations?
When I disassembled my car I made baggies of every nut/bolt/bracket/etc. Since plating houses don't generally deal with small details like keeping everything sorted, I found this the perfect opportunity to get into plating. What an absolute blessing it has been to be able to plate on demand and ensure things get back to their correct location. The other plus is it allows me to tailor the finish to exactly what I need. Do you plate for yourself or business? If so, what all can you plate?

I do it for myself mostly, turned into a separate hobby, currently do Zinc Phosphate, Manganese Phosphate, Electrodeposited zinc (vary the brighteners to achieve a multitude of finishes), finish with a chromate in clear/blue, yellow, black, or OD. Now that I have a really good handle on these I'm looking into sulfuric acid anodizing.

Try Eric on the board here 3404@oh.rr.com been doing my wiper motor and bulk plating for years Same here, you get the results you expect,he can give you whatever finish you want and it doesn't take forever and you won't need a second job to pay the bill ! Leave Eric alone, he is busy doing a bunch of my parts right now. I've been using Eric for years, helps he's a good friend and only 15 miles from my shop. Eric hand plates every part no matter what it is, nothing goes in a tumble basket like all the production platers use.

I may not be the OP, but this info will benefit me greatly as well. Looks like all the options posted are considerably cheaper than the place I've been using.
