I ran a 12.07@ 121.75, 1.99 60ft. 3700lbs. Really wish I had some slicks. I have CNC'd 6.1 heads with 2.10 intakes. I would skip the 5.7 heads unless they are Eagles and are worked on. The capability of the heads is the main reason I did a Gen III to begin with. Dont mess with the older 5.7 heads, waste of money when if you keep your ear to the ground, Eagles, Apaches and 6.1's are ready for the stealing. 6.1's seem to be thrown to the side these days but if you find a good used set, you start with 2.08" hollow stem intakes and 1.62 hollow exhausts. [ Moparts Family Site - Keep it Friendly ] is not to like there?

I was toying with a Gen III project a few years ago when the Eagle was available cheap from Mopar and almost got a set then, but didn't pull the trigger due to too many other things going on...DOH! How is reliability with hollow stem valves?

You should be able to run high 10s easy in an A-body with a stock Eagle 5.7 and a little bit of boost. Mine's not an A-body but it's 3995 lbs and has run 11.46 @ 120 on only 6 psi. 93 octane and air/air intercooled. Super low dollar setup and I drive the heck out of it. Drag week, long cruises, daily driving, etc. 3.64 gears and a 6 speed.

How is reliability with hollow stem valves? The OEM valves are not meant for much rpm or spring pressure...this comes right from Ferrea. I haven't run the Manley hollow stems so I can't say for sure. Brian

If you are interested in an easy path to decent power, Ma Mopar just announced 392 485 hp crate motors and install kit (computer, wiring, etc) for MSRP of about 11,500 for both motor and kit. I would guess you could get it cheaper by a couple of thou? There are a lot of advantages in going with a factory motor that was pulled off the regular engine line. Add in a good header and exhaust system, and it ought to be close to your goal. Ask around what the true cost is of a custom engine build and everything needed to match what you get with the crate motor, might be a cost effective way to go Plus the mileage , low speed torque and reliability will be excellent.

Whats a good running Scatpack Challenger running? Hight 11s? At 4400 lbs take 1000lbs out and high 10's? good converter, long tube and gears. Matt

Just ease into the throttle when you go for your first ride, because if you put sticky tires on that beast you will quickly find the weak link in your driveline. I would love to be there when you do it

rtsinc, Have you considered an OD trans ? I know it is another hit in the wallet, but the revs with a 1/1 high gear will be 3000+ on the freeway and the noise might be be a little bothersome, along with poor gas mileage. Hughes has a lockup GM trans that will hold the torque. Not sure if they have the matching bellhousing for the Hemi, but if they do that is one stout trans.
