Must have hurt the ole 8.75 last time at the track. Major whine under decel. Very very loud. Almost sounds like a siren, its so dang loud.

Pinion bearing, lost some teeth? What are the usual culprits for decel whine?

Probably pinion bearing.

Don't wait until it locks it... that can be a scary ride...

If you're in luck the pinion nut has come loose, if not, rebuild time

Could have been low on fluid and upon acceleration the pinion bearing was starved of lube. Pull the pig and check it out.

Why not check the pinion nut first ??? if it is loose, Loctite and retorque it, see if noise goes away. I have seen many examples over the years and had it happen to me once. it makes helluva whine on deccel as the pinion is pulled back into the differential housing, See attached pic

PICTURE

If it's not loose then pull it whistling twocents

Sounds like the nut is loose, the only way it gets that loud, I have heard it, sounds like a locomotive in the trunk! It is not a bad bearing making that noise.

that'd sure be a nice break for you if the nut is loose & tightening it takes care of it

If it has a crush sleeve 489 case then that could be it, or like everyone else said pinion bearing or loose nut.
