I read that the AC should be cycled often to prevent shaft seal leakage on these RV2 compressors. If that is true, can rotating the compressor several revolutions by hand be effective?

Just turn the defrost on now and then. The a/c should run on defrost. Or , just turn the a/c on for a few minutes.
