I have a 410 with aluminum W2 heads and a hydraulic cam. I had a couple of adjusters come loose driving home from LVMS. The result is is can't get one lifter to not have an unreasonably loud noise. Since at 74 I am done racing, I am installing stock lifters. I will put cam lube on the lobes and lifter face. Do I need to break it in just like a new cam?

Yeah, just break them in like a new cam, and change the oil afterward. Look things over real good while you are in there. Make sure the noise isn't coming from something else.

Hmmmm sounds like Comp Cam lifters..

Yes. Will not be a problem on a relatively new cam. Would use Zinc break in additive and an oil with zinc in it as well as the lubing you refer to. I have done lifter replacement successfully on a number of motors however they were mostly stock.

Try to find old stock lifters. Johnson/Sealed Power, TRW, McQuay Norris and the like. Most over the counter new stuff is manufactured offshore and typically sucks. At least that has been my experience.

A quiet valve train requires excellent lifters and I have found that, as simple a design as a lifter generally is, quality and reliability of current offerings is suspect at best.

Break them in same as you would a normal engine break in. Approx 2k RPM for 20 minutes.

How old are your Rhodes lifters? If you have had them for awhile, the other 15 might be better than anything you can get now.

If you replace them, make sure they ALL rotate equally when you roll the engine over.

They should turn like they are gear driven.
