Mancinis' has a pretty attractive deal on EZs with pushrods and valley + bolts. Are the OOTB TFs alot better?

I know the flow numbers on the new TFs between .400-500 look really respectable?

I've heard all the dings on Indy, what y'all think?

i think the opportunities for future development would be with the Indy heads. Depends on what level of performance you're seeking.

But for a engine not going over 6500/6800 would the smaller runners be a better choice. I see the advantage of the 'max wedge' at big lift high RPM.

Those .400-.500 numbers on OOTB TFs look really good.

It has been years since considering new heads, but I seem to remember the price used to be a whole bunch more for the Indys.

Guess competition is a good thing for us?

If i remember correctly i believe the TFs have better mid range numbers than the EZs. As Rebel pointed out the EZs have more room to grow.
I guess the question would be what kind of power are you looking to make? shruggy

580-600 would make me a happy camper.
I know I know, I will want more, but in my advanced years I have learned there is never going to be enough.
Kinda like years ago when we had a pretty nice boat, it made me real happy until seeing some of the 'better' boats at the ramp. The missus said sumthin that we always stick with me, "No matter what you have, someone will always have something better" Smart girl (wonder why she picked me?)

I would go with the TFs then, OOTB should get that.
I'd give them the once over & go.

CNC Stealths or OOTB Trickflows will get you to 600 pretty easily.

If you want to take it up a notch from there, buy EZ's from Dwayne Porter and have him clean up the ports. A little more time and a little more effort but a little more power.

My OOTB EZ's have me running 9.70's on pump gas....Right around 700hp...

We are running 7.12 in the 1/8th in a heavy car with a set of big valve stock cast iron Mopar heads...Pump gas. So 600 is possible with stock heads.

What would you be putting them on, and what additional work were you willing to consider doing to the heads before using them?

Just 'thinking out loud'.. I see these new Trickflows are pretty good for what they are. So I took a gander over at Mancinis' and saw the EZ price was right there with the TFs.

I know the EZs have been around for quite sometime, all the huplah over these new TFs just got me wondering y'know?

I looked at EZs many years back and the price sure has dropped.

Actually I'm putting together a shopping list and you know what cheapskates us guyz are.Just want to get it right the first time eh?

69 446 2295 pistons going e85 1050 Quickflow 254-260 @.050 Solid FT heavy B body 4.56, but will run 3.23 most of the time for just putzin' around.

Probably build a low deck 512 and keep my iron stuff for the numbers.

Shoot I really don't know, just came into some money so it's burnin' a hole in me pocket.

You've just proposed two very different builds that would likely use different heads...

Buy the best set of heads you can now, even if you need to save some more money first and then reuse those heads on other builds later thumbs twocents I've never regretted doing that, I have regretted buying cheaper heads and then finding out they wouldn't make the power I wanted later down realcrazywork

Thanks Cab!

Damn, felt like I just got interrogated by the D.A.

YUP nothing is set in stone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yet. Just exploring and trying to get the best bang for me buck and be ready if the build changes/upgrades.

Sorry for blabbing, I feel like a kid with the old Sears 'Wishbook'!

Here's a question I can't seem to find. The consensus is the short valve in most BB mopar replacement heads really limits their output.

The Indy has .500 longer valves. Are the trick flows stock length?

I think I'm leaning towards the TFs as they seem to be all I need (and more)

Seems the makers are pretty good at listening to customer input too (although I've never heard a discouraging word about Indy(:

OK I found my answer, the new TFs do utilize a longer valve. (5.4")

The bigger 'Max Wedge' ports are basically for high RPM no?

I have read about keeping velocity up so that would give the nod to less port volume? (at lesser RPM/lift numbers)

Brad the only thing for sure on this build is I'm using e85 and shooting for big compression. The stroker is not a given at this time, but always the Boy Scout,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, wanna be prepared eh?

momopar ,
will the EZ in a max wedge port need offset rockers ? that may also be a consideration . I must say the Mancini pricing does open up the choices

I think they use regular offset rockers and headers etc. hence the handle 'EZ'? I have read the regular ones ARE Max Wedge, just as cast and not opened up? Rekon a steady hand and a good burr would net you some gains on the cheaper "as cast" ones?

I think I will just go with the TFs. I read about 30 pages on them and Andy has some pretty impressive numbers with not a whole bunch of cam. He was at 505 though, but a solid 600 out of 446 (for now) would make me one happy camper fo' sure!

The motor Andy used for the testing in the TF thread is a 470, not a 505.

Does Mancini have the EZ's on sale somewhere? I looked on their site and the prices are the normal prices, same as they've been for several years.
Assembled std port heads for $1885, std port head "kit" for $2095.

TF has dyno sheets showing more than 600 hp from a 440 with their heads, intake, hyd roller cam, etc. Seems fair to me although Mopar Muscle had trouble finding 600 hp.

My combo is a 470 inch low deck with 10.5 compression and a solid roller. Best pulls so far are in the 715 hp range but my engine isn't very "user friendly". It is more of a Pro Street type of engine than a daily driver.

We made 655 HP; 633 Ft Lb. at 5500 RPM on a 400/470 with the TF heads out of the box, solid cam 270 @ .050 &.640 lift; 10.25/1 on 91 octane. Makes for a great street/ strip build!
