Im selling my 92 D250. its got the 318 magnum. Its been an excellent truck, the only thing Ive ever had to do is replace a leaky rear wheel cylinder, clean the throttle body and IAC valve, and of course regular maintenance stuff (oil, filter, air cleaner).

Now, I dont know why, but it seems that when you sell a vehicle you all the sudden notice things that you never noticed before, even after years of owning the vehicle. The red 'maintenance req" light has been on ever since I bought the truck, and I pretty much forgot about it since Ive never had any issue with the truck besides the 2 I listed. I pretty much forgot it even existed and have been blind to it since owning the truck.

Now that Im selling it, its set off red flags with buyers. So I did some research and from what I can find this particular light was a regular scheduled maintenance reminder programed to turn on at certain intervals to remind the owner to take the truck back to the dealer for its scheduled maintenance, whatever it may be. After the dealership performed the maintenance, they turned the light off with their scan tool or whatever it was they used to talk to the ecm.

So, My truck is in great shape mechanically, and obviously the warranty is expired, so I cant just walk in and have them turn the light off for free.

Am I wrong about the purpose of the light?? To potential buyers, seeing this light on is basically like seeing a check engine light, but from everything Ive read, it is not the same at all. CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM WHAT THIS LIGHT IS AND TELL ME HOW THE HECK I TURN IT OFF!!?? If Im wrong, and it does indicate a certain problem(s), what are they??? This truck runs like its new

Used to be what you said: use a drb 1 tool and turn it off. Now, most dealers don't even have them now as they are antiquated. I'm not sure if a snap on 2500 will do it. It does not indicate a imminent or pressing issue

I'll be honest: I'd unplug the bulb since its not a quality of vehicle type thing. As long as check engine light still comes on at start up.

Pull the bulb or find someone with the correct scan tool.

Is DRB 1 a slang name for a certain scan tool or the actual name?

My 90 Dakota Convertible had the same light. I just pulled the bulb because as you said, it's just to remind you upcoming maintenance and the dealership does not have the tool to turn it off.

IF I remember correctly, on my 92 Dakota 5.2, it was mileage related, I think every 50K and the purpose mainly was to remind you to clean/replace the EGR valve, I believe they were prone to clog.

I removed the bulb.

Actually, IIRC, it was a tiny bulb, and in the process of trying to remove it, broke it. Same result.

The truck went on after me to a friend, then to his nephew, and some over 300,000 miles, basically untouched.

This pic was from a Craigslist ad posted by a local yard, as it was taken to the yard ... and listed for parts, ironically one of the good parts listed was the engine ...

I remember when mine came on with my 89 RAM. We were coming home from the Mopar Nats in Indy and that stupid light came on at 50k and I said [ Moparts Family Site - Keep it Friendly ] is wrong. After I got home I saw it was a reminder to replace the EGR or something like said.

Some had a button you had to reset. Some had a battery.Depends on the vehicle.Look up a googl search.IIRC most were pretty easy to reset as they were for maintainve only.Supposed to have you return to dealer just for $$$.Rocky

Can't you just disconnect the battery for an hour or so to make it disappear?

I'm pretty sure that the scanners found in many modern shops will perform the same operations as the DRB II. Check a local independent shop.

Lite is for EGR kleening/maintance required by the EPA...
Certain Chrysler cars actually had a small slide switch on the back of the cluster to reset the lite, close to the speedo..

Just my $0.02... wink

There were like 2 or 3 different ways to reset the light. Some had a button you pushed and held some a battery some had a slide. It was for so called maintaince only.Like I said not hard to look it up on a Google search.Reset plenty back in the day.Rocky

Apparently the 89-95 dodge maint req lights do not have a batt, or any type of reset switch, it must be done with the scan tool that nobody has anymore. Im probably just going to remove the bulb or disconnect the wire feeding it if possible.

Actron Scantools with Chrysler cartridges are fairly inexpensive on eBay. These are mainly OBD-I diagnostic devices but there is also a OBD-II cartridge.

I have one for a 1995 5.9V8 and it seems to be able to reset all check engine light conditions. My pcm chip is probably similar to your 1992 Magnum 5.2V8.

If the pintle valve and / seat on your EGR corrodes away badly,
Allowing exhaust gas to flow some all the time,
the pcm chip will not see the air fuel ratio slightly lean
when it runs its on/off self check of the EGR system.
This will turn on the light.

If you replace a badly corroded EGR valve a 1992-1995 Magnum V8 will idle more smoothly,
And will climb steeper hills without downshifting.

This is right. Look it up as I dont remember what it took for that year off the top of my head. Some had a small box that you had to replace a 9 volt battery and then use a paper clip to push a reset button in the box. Some you just pushed a reset button and the later years you used the scanner to reset. It comes on for an emissions reminder to replace some emission parts. Some call for the EGR and the 02 sensors replacement. If you take it to a dealer they cant turn it out without doing the service so I would look up your year and model to see what it needs to turn it out. Ron
