My trans pulled this stunt last night My code reader won't read it and the check engine light is illuminated. I assume speedo sensors or solenoid pack. The reader I have should scan and read it but it indicates it is OK ?? I will not disconnect battery until I get a snap code reader on it any suggestions?

Check eng lite on should just say in PCM a trans code is set. You need to read the TCM codes. Depending on the year as to where you hook to read the TCM the 95 and earlier will have a trans/body connector inside the vehicle as its a kinda square connector. 96 and newer used the OBDII connector under the dash for the PCM and TCM. Ok,now disconnect the battery and see if the trans resets itself. Some times it's just a hiccup in the operation and not a real issue.

I would get the trans codes read first because if the ck eng lite is on it should have a code in it. Any Mopar dealer can read both the PCM and TCM codes for you. Why clear it before you find out what it is ? Once you have the trans code read then clear it and if it comes back you will know if its the same code. That will tell you the TCM set the same code twice and give you a good idea the problem is in the circuit that the code was set for. Ron

Isn't that the transmission with the solenoid packs mounted up front?
Lots of those things got a full rebuild when all they needed were wiring repairs or solenoid packs.

Some of those problems would not kick a code because the way they failed did not present as a problem to the TCM.

Currently checking wiring and harness nothing yet.The best part for me is Dodge wants me to buy another extended warranty on my Journey already covered by limited lifetime on engine and driveline It is only hair under $3,000 + tax The same geniuses turned me away after I returned the Journey for issue with the second recall WIN that will fail at times to start. Never did it before the dealer touched it. So I'm hurrying to buy another warranty after they tell me $98 and hour to diagnosis a recall item. Oh well

PS Thanks for all the reply's You guy's do go out of your way!

You should be able to get some auto shop or dealer to read the tcm codes as it would be good to see what code it set. Then you know what circuit set the code and wont waste time on the wrong thing. Ron

It's a dry heat
I've had a couple of them many years ago. they would go into limp in periodically, Ck'd it the DRB and NO codes stored.

BUT the start count would be real low. On MOST I had, a new TCM fixed them.
BUT, I had one on a minivan with a cut wire under the left front fender well wiring.
Like to never figured that one out .

So, once ck'd and you don't have a stored code. Ck the start count in the TCM with the DRB
