Been awhile since I've been on the board. Sold all my cars and renovated the house so ive been away from my Mopars. I just picked up a 72 Scamp with a hopped up 318. It currently has an edelbrock performer 360 intake on it and if memory serves me correctly, this intake had bigger ports than the stock 318 heads. The motor is a rebuilt 318, .030 over, 9.2 to 1 (math calculation based on the numbers I got off the pistons), .484 MP cam and a set of headers. I've got the motor out to paint and detail and I was wondering with that cam and compression, would it perform better with my old Torker 340 single plane? I may go forced induction again this winter which would require the single plane but there is no need to change now if it wouldn't optimize the combo I have now.

Don't know what vert you have, but the 484 cam is actually pretty big, stick with the Performer dp if you want any low end.

I haven't got a converter yet, I bought the car with a dead trans so it's ready for what ever will be the best match. I was looking at a 10" PTC with around a 2800. I still have to confirm the gear in the car too. Supposed to be a 3.91 but I haven't checked yet.

I agree I would still stick with the performer also.

Does it have 318 heads or 360 heads w the larger ports? You want an intake that matches the port size in the head. Edelbrock made a 318 sized port manifold model D4B and it works better than any other 318 intake bar none.

Take care,

Its got 318 heads. It is supposed to be the original motor for the car just rebuilt with the cam and a better comp. height piston. I'm trying to go off of what the previous owner told me.

I have used 340/360 intake on 318 heads many times. Never had a issue and they ran well. If I was buying a new intake then yes get the correct one but I would run the one you have and save the bucks.

the eldelbroke 318/340/360 performer intakes has the bigger 340/360 runners but neck down to 318 size ports to work all 3 engines.

instructions tell you to port match only 1/2" to 1" into the runner to open it up to 340/360 port size when running on the bigger port heads.

hands down night and day difference on small head teen is the holley street dominator, single plane, low rise spredbore intake. way better than the performer. performer is just lighter than stock with stock performance.

I have run the edelbroke performer RPM airgap and a non-airgap intakes on a few 360 headed teens and hands down it is the best intake and last of the LA engine intakes that works well on the street and even better on the strip.

my #302-head 318 with the hughes magnum 5.2 whiplash roller cam is awesome with the holley street dom/holley 6210-650cfm spredbore dbl pumper is awesome in my 85 stepside rowin a nv4500 5 speed.

same for the 88-440 truck with a street don/750cfm edelbroke whiplash cam.

my last 318 used a stock low comp bottom end with home pocket porting on 360 heads, performer RPM non-airgap intake, 5.9 whiplash, a "tight" 3000 ptc verter tf-2 shift kit 3.91sg 245/60/15 in a 73 swinger.

I swap my BB440 street dom intake out now and then for a edelbroke RPM to get a little more top end without dropping off lowend.

I would run the performer intake till something better like the LD4B or HSD

I never had good luck with any torker or torker 2 on sb combos myself but I was much younger then when I tried to just bolt and mix match parts without tuning stuff

Find a older Holley Street Dominator intake. I used one back in the early 80's on my first car with a 318,and it ran very well.

Just leave the performer intake on it that you have now. The 318 ports are so poor, like trying to run a marathon while breathing through a straw.

The Weiand Stealth/Action Plus intakes are essentially LD4B intakes. Still available new and show up in the for sale section occasionally.

Ports are horribly cast (I'd bet the LD4B was too), but on the one I gasket matched 6 out of 8 were 318 sized, the other two were very close to 340/360 sized already. Aside from that, darn good intakes, and a big step up from the performer which is essential an aluminum version of the late model factory four barrel, from what I can see.

I have a used 2176 performer on my daily driver 318 and what you say is true, but the manifold will also accept the A/C pump and I don't see others that will do that. I have not seen all SB manifolds so there maybe one in aluminum that does.
