Hi all I'm about to start building a blower manifold for a 14/71 mooneyham on to a aluminum A engine. I have been reading a bit about people using a lot of blower setback, has anyone got any more info on this or any other info I should know. Thanks

If your interested you can buy one from Max-Wedge Performance in Australia. They cast them for the A engine. Here is the info I have. Bill Laney williaml@hotkey.net.au

I should have said this is a W9 headed engine which bill doesn't make a manifold for, they are nice units though.
Cab_Burge
I am using a front mount MSD which has an offset drive

What kind of blower are you using? Inlets ,outlet, highhelix? The set back deal is mainly for the front discharge blowers. They have an outlet that is a small delta (pie shape). This pushs the air all to the front of the case and it comes out at near a 45degree angle. So it pushes more air to the front clyinders and less to the back if monted in stock location. The newest set back manifolds set the blower way back on the motor. Keep in mind that the snouts for a full set back are very expensive( $2500 and up for just the snout). There are other options.Depending on what you plan on running a full set back isn't worth the money in most guys opion.Hope this helps

the Koffels place Lake erie monster uses a 4bbl intake with a 14. a lot of bracing going to the plate holding the blower and a lot of aligning placing the mounting studs.it works great though.

It's large inlet, standard outlet, not high helix(didn't fit the current budget).
So if I follow correctly it won't really make any difference unless it's high helix blower. I'll just center it on the runners then if theirs nothing in it.
Thanks for that

There is power to be found by seting the blower back. It is more to even out the air and fuel. But in most cases if money is not a problem then go for it.But if your like the rest of use playing with something you shouldn't be (Don't feel bad I can't help my self either). The other option is not setting the blower completely back.Mine that we ran last year is back 3 5/8".We got a 8" snout from jr at rbs super chargers for I think aroud $500-600.By the way a 8" snout is really 8 5/8" long.If you are going to move things around make shure of you acuall snout length. To give you an exsample our hat jets in the front are 68's Still to lean and our backs are 32's and there still cold. If we could se the blower back more it would help even that out. When we moved it from stock spot to 3 5/8 back we picked up heat on 2 more cylinders with no other changes. With your blower big openings (like what we use to run) I don't think you will see that much of a problem.Just depends on what you plan on doing later on down the road and really what can you spend. If I can help just let me know.

What was the reason for doing that? Is it a class thing?

Love those hardtops.... A good mate of mine helped a lot starting up the hardtop registry. Not sure if it's still around or not though. I'm in Brisbane myself, so would love to see your ride once it's finished! Sorry, I can't help with your question, it's way out of my league..

Hi Gary,A good friend of mine had one custom made for a big block chev in a commodore. He bought a used 14/71 off victor bray and had Weldwell engineering in brisbane make a custom blower manifold. The car ran 7.20s and the manifold was a work of art.Give weldwell a call.
Thanks for the info. Making the manifold is not really a problem, I just saw a bit of info on the web about setback and was wondering if there was enough of a performance gain to make it worthwhile playing around with it.
