I know this doesn't answer your question, but I ended up buying one on Amazon for a 46RE transmission.

You may not save much money over that one by pulling one from a junk yard.

Check your local dodge dealer for a 1" filter extension. I picked one up for $22 from mine.

John, If I got the deep pan from the junkyard Are the filter extensions on the transmissions already and I could take it off of that with the pan

Got a PN?
I used same pan on my 518, it needs a spacer but thought it should be ~0.7"

No , the 518 uses a different style filter. I made my own extension as the 518 pan is deeper than most deep pans. If I remember it was about 1.75" thick.

Thanks for the help. I got the pan from the junkyard today for $5. Now I just have to get the spacer.

Do you really need a spacer since you are filling the trans to the same Level as before work

The only Carbs I care about are under the hood!

The spacer places the filter down near the bottom of the pan where it belongs.

I’ve wondered about this as well. Other than promoting better circulation at the bottom of the pan for cooling I don’t see what difference it makes assuming you keep the fluid level between the marks.

Would you put a deep sump pan on an engine and have the stock pick-up 2" off the bottom of the pan ?

Obviously there will be more fluid in the pan and therefore the fluid will be cooler just because of the volume of it...so use the extension that matches the pan so it does not run low and suck air.

Engine comparison is not valid. I'm sure it's slightly cooler fluid at the bottom, but I don't think it's a big deal. Windage isn't a problem, there's no where for the fluid to "slosh" around like an engine.

If the fluid level is full, I think it's good to go. I have deep pan on my 518 with no extension.
Only put 3-4K on it so far, we'll see how it goes.
