1972 dana 60 3:54 is making a clunking chatter noise in reverse. Drive shaft is fine. Could it be loose spider gears? Gonna take the cover off and see when I get a chance. Is there 4 spider gears and do two turn onl when turning the car? Not sure. I noticed my car sometimes is not a sure grip. Any input would be awesome.thanks

Mine needed a tube of anti-slip additive added and it went away. Modern lubes say they are formulated for sure grips, but they need the additional additive in my experience.

I agree. Sounds like you need to change the fluid and add a fresh bottle of Ford friction modifier.

Had the same problem with mine, added a bottle of GM friction Modifyer. Problem solved.

I put 90 weight in it a few years back. So this could be the problem? What do I do ,drain it and put 80 weight in it and the friction limited slip modifier? Thanks, this could be a pretty easy fix.

I would try the friction modifier first.

Have you removed the drums to make sure it's not the brake shoes grabbing the drums? The one wheel peel also could mean the clutches are worn especially if it's the later Trac-loc unit

I had the same issue, and it was a carrier bearing getting ready to explode, ask me how it worked for me...

I would jack up the car, set the parking brake to lock the rear, unbolt the drive shaft and drain the rear of oil. When it finally has stopped draining, put a 1 & 5/16s socket on the pinion nut and using a breaker bar crank it back & forth while observing the movement of the carrier. You should be able to see movement in backlash, bearings, spiders, etc. And the condition of the gear oil would be a good test too. Shiny, glittering gear oil is not a good thing, DAMHIK.
