I have the police spec wheels on my 1970 road runner convertible, currently 275-60R15 on the rear and 235-70R15 on the front.

I’m looking at a front tire upgrade and was wondering if a 235-60R15 on the front would look better or not.

I FINALLY have the (power)steering all straightened out and its driving and handling much better after 35 plus years.

Any other thoughts, pros or cons? ANY suggestions would be helpful.

i'm looking for new fronts for my 69 as well and i believe, from the 100's of posts and searches, that the consensus leans towards a 235x65x15.

Mine are smaller at 205/70/15. The one thing I do know is the backspace is more crucial when going wider on tire. I added a 1" spacer on the front of mine to move them out and they tried to hit at the front during a turn. I'd think a wider tread may try to do the same. Maybe look at how much clearance you currently have at the bottom front corners of the fender and see if there's enough room for more tread width...

He's not going wider, he's going shorter. 235 is the width, same for both choices, 70 or 65 or 60 is the aspect ratio (height is 70, or 65, or 60% of the width) 15 is rim diameter.

I ran P235/60R15's on the front of my M body, so not much help there as I never owned a Body of any sort.

235 60s look to short to me but I like a car to sit up like it's fixin to jump on somebody. I run 225 70s on the front of my B-bodies and love them. I have run 235 70s in the past and like them as well. I have 215 70s on my AAR cause I like the way it sits but I may go to 225 70s, I have a set of 235s 70s on 6.5 ralleys and just think they look big on it. They all seem to match up fine to my rear tires, 275 60s, L60s and N50s depending on which car and which day.

I prefer to run the same aspect ratio in my cars
My 70 Cuda is 275/60/15 x 235/60/15 ........245's on the front rub.

I do think the perfect rear would be 275/55/15 (talking stock wheelwells and spring locations here) but the only tires are $500 each Avons!!! Not that I am not tempted!

Aesthetically speaking, yeah, I was going for the rake look.
I have all new front and rear suspension no air shocks(FINALLY!!)
and I've seen different wheel/tire combos. I just not satisfied with the way the 70's look on the front.

I will probably go with the 235-60's....yeah, I'd be tempted to do the Avons.....but the price......yikes!!

I'd LOVE to get more tire under the rear as well, but, I don't think there is much else I can put under there with the current wheels.

My car barley hooks up with 325/50-15 Nitto Drag Radials on the back. They are one of the only 15" tires with any kind of a high speed rating, and it's a "Y" rating at that = 186 mph. Anything smaller is just too squirrely on the street. No cutting or tubing was needed, but I am running a B-body rear end and Dr Diff's inset hangers.

On the front, I'm running 245/60-15's. They do rub slightly when I back out of the driveway, but not enough to trip on. The next set of front tires with be Avon's in the same size. They don't last as long, but they have a 149 mph speed rating.

JBC - do the rear tires rub on the wheel wells?

I run P225/70R-15 on the front and 275/60R/15 on the rear of my cuda. The 235/60/15 were just too short.

275/60 and 235/60 are becoming a pretty basic combo for muscle era cars. Both sizes are easily available from the few 15" tire manufacturers that are still out there aming tires, they are easy to get and don't cost an arm and leg.



Interesting combo that looks brutally wide. My Challenger is running MT SR (H Speed rated, btw) 26x12 rear and 26x10 front. I'd say that is somewhere close to 305/45 and 255/55 in metric terms. It doesn't looked as stuffed full of tire as your does, but I think rim offset and overall diameter may have some influence on that. I've also got a B body rear with 1" inboard springs.

I like the stance, The 70's I have in the front strike me as being too tall.

I thought using the 235's would give more rake and a more muscular stance.

The 245's might be a bit too wide for the front.

You don't have to follow what I say but I've had enough of these cars to know different.
