I have a 70 Challenger Stock style suspension, race only car. I have coil overs in the front tied to the 25.3 cage. Big blown Hemi. I have it down to 3,100 lbs but for my class I'm still 200 lbs over weight. Cutting the wheel wells out will give much better access, how much weight would it save? Is this advisable? Has anyone else kept the stock front frame rails and any pics?
Thanks

How much do the crash bars normally weigh?

In my 73 chally when remove the bars in the door they were only bout 12 lbs. frown I no ounces ands up to pound, but it wasn't what I thought.
If I remember right 70-71 had heavier bars than the 72-74 or was it the other war around work

If I remember correctly, it was easily 70+lbs for a pair of doors, crash bar weight.

You might save 10 lbs cutting out the inner fenders. Not worth it when it comes to everything getting dirty for the front tires throwing dirt around.

Yeah, happy New Year everyone! glass doors, I was hoping for more than 10 pounds cutting out the fender wells. I still have leaf springs and Caltrac's, hoping to make some leaf spring races this year. I don't mind the dirt so much, she is track only

Butterfly's wide open, 590/blower, a little wrinkle, not that wide of a slick, 3100lbs and they aren't spinning? eek

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I don't know if it's allowed in your class, plus the expense, but changing your leaf springs to coil overs would save a lot of weight.

I'd cut them off and anything else that would
make it lighter and gives you more ease to get
at the engine... forget about getting dirty..
your playing on a drag strip

Real racers don't care about a little dirt, especially heads-up racers looking for ET's and win lights. LOL

I can off the leafs and 4 link it for my local class, but I'm really looking forward to touring some and running in some of the heads up leaf spring classes

Pro Mag 44 with a grid, it's so much nicer than when I was trying to pull timing with a six shooter
