My car 1969 Dart about 500hp small block, 5500 stall converter
4.56 gears 29x12-15 slicks
I had an 9.5 4000 stall converter and it would 60' 1.69
and went 11.35 118 mph

New converter concepts converter 8" 5500 stall 60' 1.65 to 1.70
went 11.28 119.8 mph

Car has caltracs and split mono leafs with Rancho shocks on lightest setting I tried putting 1 click to firm in the shocks
and dropped the tires pressure to 8lbs and the 60' went 1.75

Not sure where to go from here with it , I would think the 60's should be in 1.50's ?

Footbrake or transbrake?
What front suspension?
Is the car spinning at all? Or is it just a dud out the gate?

It almost seems like it hooks then spins a little
Could I be unloading the tires?

The 60' does seem soft for the ET. Those Rancho shocks always worked well for me at the stiffer end of the settings. I'm surprised you're at the lightest setting and footbraking.
How are your front shocks set up? Real loose? Try stiffening them up a little, in case it is rising too fast and causing it to unload.
8 psi in those tires sounds low to me for this car...I'd start around 10 psi and see.

How are your Cal-Trac bars adjusted? Typical baseline for me was always 1/4 turn preload on both sides and use whatever front mount hole makes the bar close to parallel w/ the ground.

I am new to caltracs so I check them also

I think i will start by bring the tires to 12psi and putting the rear shocks on firm and see what that does, then work on the caltracs

If you are footbraking, accellerator pump tuning is critical. Gotta make sure your jetting is optimized too otherwise you'll have a harder time figuring out what to do with the squirters and pump cams.

* Jet for more MPH
* Squirters and pump cams for 60'
* Pump cams (duration of squirt) for 330'

I was surprised to learn that the fresh engine I ran for the first time this past weekend picked up a couple of tenths by jetting 2 #'s leaner than the same combo/set-up which had 4+ seasons on it. I still have to fine tune the jets and accellerator pump system to optimize the whole run. 1.46 60' was as good as ever, but should have been faster when compared to the rest of the run and previous engine.

Thanks as always , I was just looking at the carb and I think the squiter is too big

I used to run my ranchos between 8 and 9 nearly all the time on SS springs and 31x10.5" hoosiers between 13 and 14 psi best 60ft was 1.43 on ranchos.

I ran mine around the same 8 I think tires were 11 pounds with caltracs

Air in the tires is way to low. I would bet 13 at least. Tighten the shocks. My bet if you had video the tread is rolling over itself. What is on the front? I also agree the carb plays a good part in it.

I agree it should 60 much better and if the eng is down on power some at launch it will also hurt your 60. For reference my old 440 combo ran a best of 11.49 @ 116 and had a 1.57 best 60. And thats on 3400 lb SS springs and the longer MP shocks with no settings on it. I do use Comp 90/10 shocks up front. I would tune the carb first and go from there but that should help. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say it only makes 450hp.. which means that he is fine for the 60 foot times and et.

I going to tighten the rear springs and up the tire pressure to 13psi for starting point
The engine made 486 hp and 440 lbft TQ on the Dyno

IMO,
The converter data down track shows it should help.
You appear to be having starting line problems, which are likely chassis tuning. Tire pressure is always a factor, you are close but 1-2 psi depends on the car combo.

Jason, I always ran it with 11.5 lbs in the tires. And after you get a good baseline experiment with the squirters in the carb. The bars were setup with an 1/8 gap in them when you got it. Jim

I would try full tight on rear shock's 8 or 9.
More PSI in tire's . ( I run 14.5 lbs)
if they are 3 way fronts I would go with the 70/30 setting to start .
I have my cal's set at 1/16th gap.
Oh are you running tube's in the tire's ?

A little more info about your car will get you more helpful ideas.

My Lovely wife took some very good pictures of me running the car, after looking at the pictures the whole car was lifting off the starting line. The rear tires where rolling over them selfs also. The front & rear shocks where on the lightest settings, so I put 3 clicks in the front shocks to tighten up the extension. I put the rears on 8 to start with and I will put the tire pressure at 12 psi for a starting point.

As said earlier more air in rear tires I run 13. Measure the front end extension, you want 5 inches or more. I cut down my upper control arm stops and lowered the car to half an inch off the lower bump stops. These mods help to keep the front end from topping out too quickly and unloading the rear. This helped my car a ton. Also make sure nothing is binding in the suspension. Very common to over tighten rear suspension components, this will cause a lot problems.

My car is very close to yours. It averages 1.48-1.52 60 ft times with a best of 1.42 using an 8" ATI 5800 converter. Runs bottom 11s at 118-119.
