There haven't ever been any steel blocks, except some industrial engines. They're either cast iron, aluminum or compacted graphite (special high strength cast iron). The same for cylinder heads.

Just a pet peeve of mine.

It may be time to start talking about fabricating some steel blocks, though. Nothing says the block has to be a casting. And steel is stiffer than grey cast iron or aluminum. Put it together by welding.

Why not?

R.

I heard that there are some new Mopar blocks in the process of being tested. I talked to a guy who said he was supplying parts for the tests. So maybe something is moving along in the supply chain?

I would really like to have a raised cam deal, but may have to settle for brand X.

Call Stanton and see if he'll tell you anything. I heard that the first batch of blocks are being tested with 4.50 cranks so maybe there will be a raised cam option.

Talked to Gary, no wedges. Hemis only and it will still be a while.

Looking for a block myself. Bob George says that none are available. I am getting tired of using stock blocks that crack after a few years use.

I seen that listing in the race part section, it states that it's an old style Indy block...........what's the difference between the old and new? shruggy

There are a few out there that people bought over the years,we have a few but are dedicated to current customers. The problem with what is out there no one knows the quality and batches they came from, some are great, some can't be bored much and some are junk. The bad part is because of the shortage the prices are over the top.We recently have seen a 10% increase for blocks from one of our suppliers.Buyers beware.
I just looked back in our archives and found my paper work on the last large order of Chrysler hemi and wedge blocks from 2005.I was paying $2240 per block. These were Siamese, mega and street blocks. On 4 or more blocks I was paying $1900 per.Go figure shruggy
