are these "JH" grade 8 bolts chinese? if so I wanted to replace them with some quality USA made pieces. they are 1/2" bolts 3 inch under head length fine thread. I need four bolts. Already called ARP and they don't have them in the 5 packs. was wondering if anyone knew of a source as I dont mind paying for quality bolts if not I'll just use them thanks

If this link: http://www.digest.net/bmw/archive/v5/msg02623.htmlis to be believed, what you have was made in Taiwan. On the flip side, Grade 8 SHOULD be Grade 8 regardless of who sells it but you never know. There was at least one case I was aware of years ago when International Harvester (I told you it was years ago) had bought a batch of cheap bolting, used it in the front ends of trucks, and then started having failures. Real mess IIRC.

home depot is cheap stuff. but, I've not had any problems with the stuff I've bought there. I just hate the gold zinc'd plating they put on them! its so hard to find black oxide bolts!
maybe fastenal has what you need? they have great selection, but too bad in my experience, they make you buy a bag of 50!

The Air Force got bit several years ago by a supplier. Sent them "grade 8 bolts" which were nothing more than standard bolts that were plated. I can't remember the exact story, but someone tested them found them not to the standard. After an investigation, they were found to have been made in China and someone along the way sent false documentation along with them.
The JH is probably the manufacturer.

So you just go in to a Cat dealership and ask for them, how does that work? I have never been to one before.
Neat Idea!
