The heads will make the power , if the motor is built right and the car can hook. Start at 34 degrees and see how it goes. I run 34 with a 440-1 head, which has basically the same chamber shape, and I have 15/1 compression and 528 cubes. A 572-13 head is basically a 440-1 casting changed from 15 degree valve angles to 13 degrees, and the exhaust is moved to make rom for a bigger intake valve.

We've used them since 2001 on a 4.5 bore 528 and then a 572. Made about 850ish hp with the 572, ran a 3900lb car in the mid 9's, 140 + Bullet cam (Indy cm3) and 1.6 arms. Very reliable eventually, haven't had it apart for 2 seasons

Talk to the pullers, they like the wedge motors over the hemis, and lot's of them run the 572-13 heads.

I have a 572" motor with these heads. 32 degrees timing. Motor is 12.5 to 1 on gasoline. Pushes my 3900# Charger to 10.3@130mph

I'd like to hear more about this combo. Not a good example to show off the 572-13's capability.

The motor
Indy Maxx aluminum block 3x intake pro Systems 1250 dominator 12.3 to 1 compression Weisco pistons TTI headers 2 18" stepped It had a custom cam in it ground by some one I never heard of. I just installed a LSM cam in it this winter.
The car
1967 Charger
All steel full interior with a mild steel cage.
mini tubbed with ladder bars.
The best ever out of it is a 10.05 at 134mph.
When I bracket race I usually dial it in at 10.2- 10.3 range depending on the day.
this is all with the trans brake set at 3000.
It's not really set to kill but be consistent.
I need to get the chassis certified for this season so I can run it in the nines.
Once that is done I will set it up more aggressively.
The track I race at has a physical elevation of 1600' and is not know for having great DA.
OK...so it's a fairly mild setup w/ not so good air. Still seems down on power, but maybe the cam change will help since the original cam was somewhat of an unknown. I'd bet it would run better w/ the 440-3 intake instead of the big 3X. Has a lot of potential, just needs some tuning.

We picked up going from the normal 4500 indy manifold to the 3X manifold, this was on a 528 motor too. Went from hi 10.20's to 10.00s never ran a 9. Maybe had something to do with the pro systems carb too.

Recently put together a 572 running the Indy 572-13 heads and was wondering what those using the heads found to be their best timing and what your setup was with them.
I am running 14:1 on alcohol. Hoping to run into the 8s at 3100lbs on 10.5 with stock suspension.
I have 572-13 heads on a 604". 13.5:1 . The car weighs about 3025 race ready. I have the 440-3x intake and a QFX 1250 dominator. My timing is at 36. I have run abest of 8.96. With some more tuning Damon seems to feel the car should run 8.80s.

What size and type of headers are you guys running?
I have the TTi 2 1/8' stepped to 2 1/4" with a 3 1/2" collector.
I wonder if they are the best choice?

Many many varibles....but - I tried alcohol for a little while with the 572/13 combo and the timing didn't seem to care between 29 and 34....more or less and you seen a change. I went back to gas and it is very critical - 31º no more no less. Thats with 116 octane and a agressive cam at 15.2 static.
Personally I dont think those heads are big enough for that cubic inch and alky. I found that even with gas that you need to focus on building torque rather than trying to spin it up. Been messing with the same combo since 1999.....I think I have peaked it out

Has anyone run -1's and then swapped to 572-13? My -1 car has been 9.12@147.7. It has box stock 750 Eddy's, foot brake, 10.5X29, 3340lb's. Doesn't appear that there is much improvement if any? Any thoughts? Doug
