Had a great time at SGMP this week end. Sorry Jason nipped a head gasket Friday night and couldn't find a replacement in time. Some killer racing going on, and Donald Long takes care of his spectators like nobody else.

I watched the live feed Sat. & Sun. and they have to do something about the number of people on the starting line before someone gets hurt. Otherwise looks like a hell of a show.

Squeeze told me you were there, I was looking for your car. Were you just there watching or racing?

I had a great time in and out of my van

IMO The Camaro that went airborne would have been saved with bars.

I had blast as well. It was great to see Dr. Digby and Chad B. out with the Dart. Highest mph in the class! The new car bugs unfortunately plagued them this weekend. They torched a head gasket and couldn't come up with a spare.

Also saw Monte Smith working on & tuning Chad Henderson's immaculate Buick.

Sleeper of the weekend award goes to the Jeep...

Rules say no bars. It's not driver's choice. If they want to run bars go to a different class.

Glad you had a great time Brad, some day I'll get down there

Has NOTHING to do with ego or "stupidity". Most radial racing, wheelie bars are NOT allowed, so these cars are set up to run without them. While they are allowed at THIS race in THIS class, most choose not to use them, because they never have.

I have seen Dewayne Mills car make hundreds of passes. NEVER seen it do that. He said it pushed the front up a little because of a new trans gear set up he was trying and then the throttle hung. Plus, at that speed, it would have just folded the bars up anyway, just as it did on the Mustang that did the same thing down there a few years ago. These cars run nearly 200 in the 1/8 and they are heavy. You get a big gulp of air under a car that fast, at that weight, it IS going airborne and bars would NOT save it.

Monte...would it have even got up high enough to catch air if the bars were low enough to keep the car down in the first place?

It's against the rules. The rules of the class say no wheelie bars. All of theother tracks don't let you use them.

This car didn't start to really till it was at the 330'.

Radial cars are NOT set up to run bars. If they touch early, it knocks the tires off. Therefore the guys that DO use them at times, in testing or whatever, run them high and are only useful early in the run. What has not been stated, was that this happened at about the 400 ft mark. The car was making a nice clean pass, with the front wheels about 4" in the air like it always does. Then it just quickly snapped the front up. At that speed, with bars a foot or so off the ground, they would have never even slowed it down. As I said, the same thing happened to Dennis Bailey a few years ago and his car had bars. When this happens, the FULL weight of the car is on the bars........they simply fold up.

This was NOT a wheelstand per say. The car just got the front up a little, air got under it and it "flew". We see it happen in Pro-Stock and cup cars all the time. Get a cushion of air under them and they are GONE. Most of the cars have full belly pans. That's an awful big "wing" to catch air running at nearly 200
