Here is what I have...

1970 Challenger 440 Sixpack. build 0613

I am 90% sure the engine in my 70 440+6 challenger is original.

However, I have an anomaly that I have not seen before.

1. The casting number and date on the block seem correct for my build date.
2. The machined upper stamp pad has F440 HP and a stamped date of 0601,
the machine marks look very correct and 99% sure not been restamped.

now what is very weird.
The side pad is not been stamped with the VIN. It has the swirls that look very correct and thats it.

every other part on/in the engine compartment is date and part# correct.
Only parts that are reproduction are the coil and voltage regulator.
and they are dated/ink stamp correctly.

Is it possible that the engine got missed during the stamping process?

The 727 is stamped and original to the car.

I have just never seen this before. There are so many things correct on the car.

Opinions very welcomed.

FWIW... I was never told it to be original when I purchased the car. but the owner could not say either.

Got me a NEW Project
1970 GTX 440+6, 4 spd, 4.10 Dana and N96 FE5 (top/bottom) and black bucket interior.
Original transmission and Dana - Engine is a service replacement block.

Body has all stamped #s + VIN/TRIM tag and door sticker. Been hunting like all hell to find the Build Sheet.

garage find, only had 41,850 miles on ODO.

that would rule out a service block replacment but could still be an over the counter block someone stuck in it but with the date range on the casting where it needs to be for your car and the upper pad assembly date good too that would seem unlikely IMO. are there ANY faint stampings on the lower vin pad I have seen some that are very very faint.

Look close, all around the pad. Some stamps have been found on the block above the pad & some on the oil pan as well.

damn ..

Barry -
if it was on the oil pan I'm screwed. That got changed out with a NOS one
there was a dent on the bottom and I wanted it gone. Changed out while I had the engine out couple years back.

I did not see anything above the pad. but I also did not look all that hard.

I will get the car up on the lift and poke around some this weekend.

maybe I will get lucky. :-)
