As many other have stated, the selection of wheels and tires for my 1971 Gen III Hemi Duster is extremely frustrating. I’ll be running 13” rotors up front with a HydroBoost master cylinder and have already purchased the Dr Diff 11.7” rear disc kit and 1/2" offset spring hangers and shackles for my 68-70 B-Body rear-ends. I’ll also be rolling the lips on the quarters and tops of the front fenders.

I remember not too long ago how I was emphatic about not running “Steamrollers” on this car as my original plan was a 225/60-16 on black steelies with poverty caps! Trouble was all the maximum performance summer tires have moved into the 17” + diameter wheels and 17’s wider than 8” may hit the suspension and still require a 11.95” maximum sized rotor!

Since I want to do it all in this car, drag, autocross, road race and Big Bend Open Road Race in west Texas next spring, probably in the Street Rod 95Mph class with my wife a copilot (That should be fun!) as well as drive the dang thing, I've decided to go with 18’s. My tire choice will be either Continental ExtremeContact DW’s or Michelin Pilot Super Sport. I’m still not sure if this will work, but here is what I have narrowed the selection down too:

245/40-18x9 +30mm
275/35-18x10 +45mm

Links don't work for me anyway. If you can find the weight, the lightest rim would be a good choice.

Don't be the exception.

Skip the Contis. The Michelin is by far the better of the two.

Pilot super sport. There is no other tire that does everything as well as that one.

Can't help with tire choice, but it's always a treat to see classic Mopars at Big Bend.

I'm a volunteer courseworker for the race, mainly because it's one of the best rolling car shows you'll ever see.

Just look for the ragged white Valiant at one of the flag stations - that'll be me.

I'll be running again this year in the duster - signed up for the 135 / 168 class. Hope to meet you in person this time. Let's make sure that happens.

Just a couple of suggestions. Backspace or offset needs to be dialed in just right with the wider wheels. Measure all 4 corners as left and right can be different. If at all possible, mount a sample wheel/tire to verify measurements.

Most 2 piece wheels can be ordered with custom backspace for little or no extra charge if needed. I wound up going with AR 17's on an E. 8" in front and 9" in the rear with custom backspace. Also 13" brakes up front. Done again I would use 18's as you are planning.

Your first wheel selection would be best IF your springs are moved in. With those wheels I would go 275 front and 285 or 295 rear.

Mopar to the bone!!!

I'm really looking for guidance with the tire size, wheel width and offset.

Will the +30mm or +38mm offset work upfront on the 9" rim on either the 245/40 or the 255/40 18's?

Will the +45mm or +42mm offset work in back with the 60.5" flange to flange (With the disc brakes) '68-70 B-Body rear-end in a Duster with the Dr Diff 1/2" offset spring hangers and shackles?

I prefer not to run spacers and I plan to have full size spare tire from the front that I can install with each combination.

The height on the 245/275 combination is (25.7"/25.6")

The height on the 255/285 combination is (26"/25.9")

I really don't want to go any wider than this.

Next year, if I run in the 95Mph class, I'll probably be driving the same speed as most of the pickup trucks run for the other 363 days of the year!

I tried both the 245/40 and 255/40 on +35mm 18"x9" for the front on mine, either was no issue. +38mm would work fine on mine also. I have the Dr Diff 13" "Brembo-style" front brakes w/ '73-'76 disc brake spindles. I am running the RT615K 255/40-18 which is 25.9" tall. I had to trim the wheel opening at the front to allow for some turn in clearance on my Barracuda. Not sure how your wheel openings differ.

Different angle, ride height set, 255/40-18 front, 325/50-15 rear (was still waiting for the 18" rear tires to come in at the time). These are the 18x9 +35mm wheels. Had just finished the "rough" body work and had not started sanding yet.

I saw you posted on my FABO thread not too long ago. Your tire selection seems ok. I'm not too sure on the rear as the Duster should allot more tire clearance naturally and you're using a different offset rear end with offset shackles. However, I'm thinking your offset in the front may be a bit too much? I know of guys using something closer to a +32-35. With my piss poor alignment (still way off) I was contacting at full lock and full droop at the rear of the frame rails with a +30mm offset.

get the michelin PS AS3 over the continental DW, that's what I went with, I can't wait to use them!

Brian -- You've stated "do it all in this car, drag, autocross, road race and Big Bend Open Road Race"... realistically, you'll be comprimising for each type of event by using only one set of wheels/tires.... Eventually, consider getting different sets of wheels/tires ... as well as considering each class/club rules, etc.... so that you'll enjoy those events and your car to the most it has to offer.

Then, setting up the car and suspension is another area to consider, per event, class/club rules, etc.

Sounds to me that maybe you should consider having a different car for each type of event...

In fact... I would like to do the same thing.. have a different designated car for every different type of event I'd like to participate in.

Its only $$...
