Looks like we will be running several races out of state with the closest one over 1k away.
Last year on the way back from St. Louis we had a stretch that was very windy and caused a good bit of sway in my truck/trailer combo. Also, when another vehicle would pass me in all that wind, it wanted to pull me over to their lane. I am thinking I needed to either change my tire setup, and or add a weight distribution hitch. After a little web surfing it seems there are lots of different brands, with options I don't know I need.
What type of weight distribution hitches should I be looking at for my 28' bumper pull trailer?

I used this one on my camper and it works well. Just make sure it is set up properly or it won`t work like it is intended. http://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distribution/Reese/RP66074.html BTW, what do you mean when you say bumper pull. I hope you have a trailer hitch installed.

Any of the good, better brands, weight distribution hitches should offer several different weight ratings on the bars, 500,750 and 1000 lbs. Buy the thickest heavy duty ones  I use to tow my first enclosed 24 ft. 10,000 lb GVW trailer with a 26 Ft Class A 1.5 ton rated IH chassis motorhome, it would be affected by big Semi passing me on the downhills in SO CA like you are expereincing, it would be affected the same way empty, no trailer or towing my 3600 Lb boat and trailer  I bought a 1998 3/4 ton Dodge CTD 2 wheel drive and started using the weight 750 lb weight distribution hitch, you will need the matching reciever also  once I got the reciever hitch hieght set correclty and the trailer chains on the bars set correctly it was easy and a dream to pull that trailer There is no way I would think of pulling a 28 ft. enclosed car trailer out of my driveway without a weight distrubution hitch on it, no way   We bought a 35 ft 5th wheel hitch travel trailer, it pulled way better than the 3 different bumper pull car trailers ever did I'm kind of looking for a longer goose neck or fifth wheel hitch racing trailer with living quarters now, if I can trade my current 24 ft Pace Shadow in on it

I pull a 29' camper with a Tahoe using the Elite EAZ-LIFT hitch assembly. I started pulling the trailer with just one sway bar and it felt a little loose around semis at highway speeds (60mph less than 10mph winds).
I found a few internet threads that say trailers over 28' are recommended to use two sway bar setups. So I then added the second sway bar and I was able to pull it safely at 70-75mph highway speeds with low wind (less than 10mph).
I am now sold on the dual sway bars when traveling on the highway.

If you are race car towing, don't leave home without them. I tow an 18' open trailer (loaded) on very hilly and winding terrain with a Jeep rated at 7500lb.GVWR. I Use 800 lb bars. I do have a set of 1000 pounders, but the 800 lb bars work beautifully. IMO, the big deal is getting the tongue weight correct.

I will be getting one now for sure.
I would have gone with the dually but I drive my truck daily, and only use it for pulling once a month or so.
Trying to park a dually at some of the job sites I go in downtown Houston, would be a nightmare.... That is why I went with the single wheel.
My truck is a 2013 that I picked up in Dec of 13. I put just under 32k on it in the last 12 months, so other than the swaying issue while pulling, it has been a perfect fit for me.
Next item is what should I do for tires on the truck. It is a 4x4 and I would like to add something a little bigger than the factory 18" wheel / tire combo. Any recommendations for a LT grip tire that will hold up to towing? Should I just keep a second set of tires and wheels just for the towing?

Check out the shocker hitch.It has a air bag built in that helps swaying and bouncing around.My dad has towed with one for acouple months now and it is great.
3120lb, small block, 10.5" tire, NA, through exhaust, full int, WITH 83/4 REAR, 9.0 at 150mph

It is loaded with the doors centered over the axles. With the additional equipment it is a bit tongue heavy. I have full cabinets with winch, and tools. I also have a generator compartment up front.
Not sure what the weight is on the tongue but it is heavy. This truck squats a bit more than my 01 CTD Camper Special.

I tow my Dakota on a 18' open trailer behind my 98 Ram 2500, never felt the need to use my EQ hitch but last year I bought a Tilt-A-Hitch off craigslist for 75 bucks, never used it out of fear that it would make towing a challenge. I plan to make a trial run with before I'm all loaded up and committed to going to the track.
