I understand that 1970 Challengers use an extra support bracket to support the rear valence in addition to the two inner large brackets. They are L shaped and connect the valence to the rear crossmember. The only year used was 1970. Does anyone have a picture or reference of what they look like and where they attach? I am putting my car back together (purchased disassembled and many parts in boxes). Thanks, Gerry.

Those pictured are the inner brackets that mount on the top and bottom of the valence. The ones that I am talking about mount outside of these and only mount on top of the valence in a hole just inside of the bumper guard.

I've owned Challengers since 74 & the ones Tom posted are the only ones I'm aware of for a 70...

I have a 70 LA built Challenger and it has 4 brackets the two pictured and two small L shaped brackets that attach to the valance braces.

there are two L shaped brackets but they actually attach to the bumper quards and rear frame rails.
Are those the ones you are talking about

No, the ones I'm referring to are just inside the bumper guards. So, mine actually has 6 brackets; the two in Tom's post above, the 2 frame rail brackets and the two that attach to the braces inside the valance.

I believe these are the ones! I think they attach to a hole on the top lip of the valence just inside the bumper guard. Does the top attach to the lower edge of the crossmember?

I've never seen those on any Challengers in over thirty years, they must be only on a small percentage of cars..Cars I worked on in the eighties I could see them being gone but I was playing with these cars in the mid seventies, hard to believe they all got misplaced....

Yep, those are the ones my car has. Here is a pic where they attach to the valance. Sorry the camera was running out of charge so it's not very clear.

I used to have a 70 Challenger T/A that had those. The threaded bolt hole has a nut insert mounted in the frame rail or rear crossmember. That is how you can tell if your car came with them. My buddy, who also has a 70 Challenger T/A, did not have them, so I don't know if this was only a very early 70 Challenger thing. My friends T/A never had the threaded nut inserts in the car frame either like mine did.

My understanding after speaking with Steve Been a couple of years ago at Carlisle is that they were found on Very early produced Challenegrs only.

The build date on my car is 12/19/69 so I guess this is an early car. The valence has a hole like the ones in Ron's picture. I can't see from the picture but I assume they bolt to the rear cross member. Ron, what was the build date of your car? Thanks, Gerry.

That's not very early. Almost halfway through the production year.
