These two parts look the same, just not a good thorough definition of applications?? Isn't a 3.9 a cut down LA motor to 6 cylinder? So, T-chain and components would be common?

See below.....

I would say they are the same. That said, I will never use one again. When I built my 416 put one in it. Used a 590 solid cam with springs set @ 185 on the seat and 380 open.
Lost the cam with just over 200 runs on the motor. When we rebuilt the cam bearings were wore smooth out. The front being the worst. JMO

Yes they will work on both applications. They were introduced to eliminate the common timing chain rattle on 3.9 engines but work just the same on a v8 LA or magnum.

IMO more trouble than they are worth.

Same parts, yes. Use them on all the small blocks I do. Never had a failure or issue from a one of them. One of the better $30 spends you can make for a small block.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I couldn't get the timing chain on with mine when engine was going together. After 10K miles, there was enough slack in the chain for it to work.
There's a reason that many foreign engines use chain tensioners. On the other hand, overhead cams use much longer chains.

I don't think the small amount of extra force exerted on the end of the camshaft will wear out the bearing, but it's the most visible thing so easy to blame.

R.

Running one on my LA360. Easy install and no problems in eight years of it being together.
