I've had this combination together since 09 and it is time! My Mega block needs 30 over and the BME 396 Aluminum rods have 339 passes on them. This includes some Nitrous passes with 300 HP hits. 70 B body 3600 lbs.,727 w/brake,Dana 4:10,14 in. Goodyears. mid 9's high 8's on juice. Can someone recommend a replacement rod? I would like to put another aluminum one in there but I am retired now and am looking for something that will last longer. Thanks Mike

That's good to hear. My 572 has BME 426 forgings. 203 passes in 2 years. I'm going to run them one more season. Doug

Callies Compstars are decent, bang for the buck. Oliver, Crower, Manly,Carrilo are all good rods, but are in the price range, or higher, than BME Aluminum, but will likely last as long as 5 sets of Aluminum rods. Remember switching from alum. to steel you will be putting Mallory metal, [$$$$], to balance the crank, because the steel rods will be a couple hundred grams, [each], heavier. You could spend $5000+ and get a set of Crower titanium rods and have the strength of steel and the weight of aluminum.

GRP or MGP are the best options IMO. We just recently pulled the engine in the Cuda to freshen it. The GRP rods in it had 404 passes on them. The engine makes just under 1100hp and this is typical. We pull them at 400 laps no failures.

I do not spin the motor very high. With 4:10's it traps around 6500 on motor and just at 7000 on juice which we only use a few times a year on heads up events. I am tempted to run them another year(339 on them now) but I am not a gambler even though I don't know anyone who has broken an Aluminum rod. Mike
Wow, I do...me. And lot's of other people too. You got good use out of those and I would replace them....JMO.

I am currently putting together a 572 with GRP rods.
Do you guys let the engine brake in shutdown area or shift to neutral?
I am using a reverse pattern shifter so not much of an option.
If you spin it high RPM it is advised to use the clean neutral... I didnt have it in my trans and I was gonna spin mine to 9000+... but it was a smaller cube engine.. the clean neutral just gives more life to the rods

Ok, I only plan on running 7000rpm.
Heard similar about high rpm. I'll be lucky to put 60+ passes a year down anyway. Replacing every few years won't hurt the pocket too much.
GRP told me you can get WAY more than the old 300 runs on them... if I have the clean neutral and werent spraying I could think of 600 passes... but I dont know about that number... and I was gonna use LIGHT pistons
