So ordered me some of the grey manifold and blasted and cleaned them up good and coated them just like it said. Been about 2 months several hundred miles and now they are flaking off really bad, it is coming off in small flakes and making one whale of a mess under my hood. Has any one else had problems with this? I used it a long time ago on another car and it worked good. I guess I get to start over again. Is there any other coatings to use that are better? I got an email to eastwoods I'll see if they answer me back.

I did a set of headers with it.Been on there a couple years now. I touch them up occasionally but I never had it come off in flakes...just some small rust spots in the welded joints, etc.

been using it for years on customers cars without an issue. The two most likely causes IMO would be 1. poor surface prep. 2. put on too thick. We use 3 or 4 thin coats allowing flash time between

We blast the manifolds,
clean with brake clean, acetone, or lacquer thinner and apply the coating using either the aerosol cans or a spray gun

Have it on my manifolds for 4 yrs, still looks great, only problem I had was it was really humid out one day and my garage is insulated so it was nice and cool inside, when I opened the big door to do some work I noticed the car had some moisture on it from the temperature difference, and a few days later I noticed the manifolds had some rust on them so I just brushed another coat on them and they looked like new again.

I have used Eastwood's Calyx with great results. It can't chip or peel. It's simple to reapply if an area were to get scraped off. A small can($20 IIRC) will do quite a few pairs of exhaust manifolds.

I did a set of exhaust manifolds for my Challenger 440 over 18 years ago.....now those manifolds are on my '68 GTX...still look like the day I coated them. It was an Eastwood product but I can't find the can to see what the number was. I did blast etc before doing.....musta done something right!!!

I used Eastwood's high temperature spray coating 4 years ago on both my cars and they still look great. I sandblasted them, wiped them with acetone and then applied three light coats. The coating looks great with no variation in color from the heat.

They are going to replace it so I will try it again, just have to reblast them again. When i put it on it went on real thick and what I used before was a lot thinner so I think I got a bad can

Since Eastwood just re labels other existing products, their high temp manifold paint is probably just Seymour Cast Blast high temp.

Their Detail Gray, Spray Gray and Aluma Blast are just relabeled Seymour paint.

For what it's worth...
I had similar issues (not Eastwood's) with high-temp paint for engine block and exhaust manifolds when my first coat was too wet and thick.

Since then (3 engine blocks and stock 440 exhaust manifolds) I have always made sure it was completely clean then lightly dusted the first 2 coats to make sure the paint bonded with the metal before going any further. Since then it has never been a problem.

Good luck

not sure what you used but I used eastwood coating on my manifolds years ago and they still look great. blasted, then sprayed and wiped the Eastwood PRE cleaner on it. I used the stuff that can be brushed on but I put in a can and sprayed it.
