Does anyone know where I can get a bottom feed oil pump pick up? It's for a little stroker build up I'm gathering parts for.
I've been reading up on the subject a bit, and they get a mention in Jim Szigalgyi's "How to Build a Big Inch Small Block" book (copy of reference attached).
They seem like a really simple, logical solution to both oil supply volume and clearancing for a stroker crank. But I cant find a supplier.
I've tried Moroso, Milodon and Canton (the last two say they used to make them but don't anymore).
Even if someone has a second hand one I could buy I'd like to hear from them!
Thanks
Shannon

I have an old Direct connection cover that uses BB oil pump rotors. Wonder why no one makes them anymore, should be pretty easy with current CNC equipment?

I have though about it, but it would have to be something fairly generic due to all of the different oil pans out there. I make one of these pick ups for me own engine and it seems to work out fine.

My gut feeling , and it has developed and changed over the years , is that the HV pump is not necessary on a tight motor at all. And with looser clearances or wear is only a band aid. I used the pick up that came with my pan ( Stef's ) and a HV pump on my thing , but clearances are on the high end of things and I have capacity and an accusump to ensure that there is oil to be picked up. When I primed the motor on the stand , I was fairly surprised at how much oil sits up stairs in this ........ not so much in the heads , but the valley will hold quite a bit. ( R-3 block ) Even after doing a couple things to help with drain back. If I go down this road again , it will be a dry sump. If I am doing a milder deal , it will be standard volume. But for most builds I think the standard volume pump is up to the task.

I made up my own pick up that I use with the HV pump... I have a lot of built in leaks and the standard pump wouldnt give me the pressure I wanted... it is a thinner wall tube that I bent up to fit my pan(I built the pan also).. when I primed the oil system with the standard it barely hit 60# and the HV pump did hit 70# which is basically the opening point of the by-pass when using a drill motor... I didnt use the bottom feed style and stayed with the original inlet on the pump (this is on my 416)

I make the pump mounted pick-ups. I think I have one non anodized one left in stock. Mine are designed to fit either an early hemi pump or the late SBM pump, that is why the bolt holes are slotted. If I get enough interest via email, I will do another run of these. info@trwaters.com
