Finally getting my car dialed in and decided to try a hole shot.
Have a new RAM HD 11" clutch assembly and it slipped so bad the tires didn't even break loose.
The motor is in the 500 hp range and I am surprised the clutch couldn't handle that.
The clutch is adjusted properly and fully engaged. Also the flywheel is new.
Any suggestions?

Clutches don't see horsepower. They see torque. Your engine probably doesn't make more torque than stock, just at a higher rpm. A stock clutch should be able to work with your setup.

Clutch is adjusted wrong.

Did you resurface the flywheel?

If the flywheel is new no need to resurface.Remind me of guys that surfaced new drums and rotors. They should be ready to install after cleaning.I also agree with a Center Force clutch.I dont like Ram.As long as it is all clean and adjusted right it should light up the rears. What gears are in it?A lot of clutches need a seat in period.Rocky

I agree! Same exact experience I had with my hemi challenger. Installed a Centerforce DF & no slip even on a few 4K rpm launches. My bro also
toasted his Ram clutch with his 490-500 hp 440 Charger. Now nas a dual disc McCloud behind the new Hemi.

Clutches do need to be broken in.

The Number One reason a clutch won't grab is the throwout bearing holding it a little bit open.

I have a feeling that if God Almighty designed and built a clutch package, somebody on this board would say he didn't like it!

CORRECTION:
Yes, the original post said the flywheel was new.I went back and had to read it three times to notice it. Maybe that's because it was right in front of my nose?

You were also having trouble a few weeks ago reinstalling the clutch fork. Is it in all 3 clips? 2 on throwout bearing and 1 pivot?

Is this a powergrip hd? I have one behind my 500+ hp 440. Admittedly I didn't really let it break in because the engine was fresh too. I had been turned off by Ram a long time ago but someone I knew ran a 10.97 with a single disc ram, so I figured I'd do it. Plus I wanted a B&B. My car had 2.94 gears when I got it back together with M&H J60s. A few clutch dumps went good and spun hard, but it seems now that sometimes it isn't smoking the tires. I've not smelled clutch though, so I'm not sure. Lots going against it, and I knew I was taking a risk, so I'm not complaining. I was basically doing 2nd gear clutch dumps with sticky tires. I'm not sure if I'd just replace it or go to a CFDF. I like a firm pedal/ B&B feel so I went with the Ram.

I did state the flywheel is new.
The clutch fork is installed properly.
I do not think this B&B style pressure plate has much firmness to it at all.
Before I restored the car I had a 23 spline transmission in there and had a local clutch shop beef up the pressure plate springs. That was a stiff clutch pedal and comparatively this one is whimpy.
Maybe it needs more break in time since the car still has less than 200 miles on it?

Have any flex in your motor mounts? Years ago, my 70 Road Runner motor mounts had a little flex in them (new at the time), I found that when I dumped the clutch, the motor was rolling over enough for the clutch linkage to slightly disengage the clutch causing a slip.

Back then, I installed a turn buckle between the motor and the K member to eliminate the motor mount flex and the slipping clutch went away for a couple months of abuse, before the clutch was dead. Tires back then didn't have much grip, like tires today have, but neither did the clutches. Gene

I have about a 600hp 470". I SMOKED a 10.5" B&B. Wasted an 11" scalloped. Then I installed a McLeod twin disc. No more problems. It IS kinda touchy and a firm pedal. Tough to granny drive and slip the clutch - it basically is engaged or disengaged but still very streetable. You have to be thinking about your clutch engagement. Couple times at a light I got distracted, engaged the clutch a little too aggressively and LEAPED through the intersection - great 60ft time

A vivid and insightful anecdote

I modified the motor mounts by installing bolts to limit travel.
The ease at which the clutch pedal operates troubled me immediately. My old one required a stout left leg.
Guess I'll drive it like it is for a while to work out all the other bugs and then tackle swapping the clutch assembly.

i've been running ram clutches for years. had good luck with them till now. 10 1/2" stuff, both 23 and 18 spline trans'. always used the 3200# pressure plate. started with the 300 series organic disc. now use 900 series sintered iron. i just smoke the clutch if i launch the car over 3500 rpm. sounds to me like you got a super light pressure plate or something. what you're describing sounds like my 72' challenger with a centerforce 2. the pedal was so soft in my '72 that my honda has more pedal pressure. i took out the over center spring and now it's perfect.
oh, the ram stuff is in my '74 challenger.
